Locked party mode and "play next"

Hey there,

I just started to use MM so I hope this question hasn't been asked before:

The main reason for me to look into MM was the party mode and it looks pretty good so far. However, there is one little detail that I would love to be able to adjust: When I enable the "jukebox"-mode with the locked screen and track skipping disabled, you can only add songs at the end of the playlist as "play last". It would be perfect, if you could also enable to have them added as "play next", so that people who add songs wouldn't have to wait until the very end of the current playlist until they are played.

I know that this is possible if you keep playback control enabled but on the other hand I would like to keep people from skipping songs or erasing the playlist by accident.

Hope this is somehow understandable...;)

PS: I have encountered a minor bug in party-fullscreen-mode, probably related to Windows 8. When I try to exit Fullscreen-mode via Ctr-Alt-M, there is an error message saying something like "failed to set data to DisablTask..." and MM occasionally crashes. Using the button in the header works fine.

For the error and crash, you should capture this in a debug log (step 4b) and send it to support: http://www.mediamonkey.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=69

You can change this in Options -> Party Mode -> Player Controls

Change
When files are playing: [Play Last]
->
When files are playing: [Play Next]

Sorry, I have to correct myself, currently the Player Controls box is disabled when following checkbox is checked
[x] Disable player controls and track re-ordering

Cool, thanks for already adding that as a request.

I'm sorry, I'm new to this kind of direct feedback from the developers (which is fantastic!), those builds mentioned regarding that feature and the bug described above, I suppose they have not yet been released? 1511 seems to be the one downloadable at the moment.

The new builds will be made available in the Windows Beta Testing forum when they're ready.

Hi again,

with your latest beta build, this is now marked as "resolved". However, even though it is now possible to change the double-click action for the party mode, this has no effect on the actual behaviour. changing it to "play next" and entering party mode leads to nothing happening after double-clicking a title. The right click context menu also just offers "play last".

Works fine for me, can you give any more details about your settings?

These are my settings for party mode:

My OS is Windows 8 x86, this is the latest build (1658). Changing it to "edit properties" works in party mode, though.

Are you sure, you have ticked all these boxes as well?

sorry for pushing this, but the issue remains unsolved for me, even with the newest build. It is still not possible to "play next" a song within party mode if you have also ticked "Disable player controls and track reordering".

Since the original response has been so quick and promising, I was wondering why there has been no reaction to my latest post...? Especially since it is marked as "closed" in th changelog for build 1658. Well, of course you could argue that "Party Mode: User cannot edit double-click action when audio controls are disabled" has indeed been resolved because it IS now possible to edit them. However, in case of "play next" this has no effect and the player doesn't do anything if you double-click.

Not sure that I understand you say that if Stopped command is executed but if playing it is not?

No, once again:

Using the "play next" command without having ticked "Disable player controls and track reordering" works fine inside and outside of party mode. But when this option is marked, MM removes the "play next" command from the right-click context menu. And even though you can now (since build 1658) change the doubleclick action (while playing) for party mode into "play next", this doesn't work, the player does just nothing when you double click.

I can understand this orginates from the fact that while activating "Disable player controls and track reordering", adding tracks as the next track in line is somewhere disabled since this would mean a "track reordering". But this is exactly the feature I was hoping for since (as explained above) it would still prevent people from skipping songs or erasing playlists while at the same time allowing them to add their desired song as to be played next.

So one could say I'd wish for a party mode option which just says "Disable player controls", leaving the track reordering active.
