Pull During Syncing Causing IPod Fatal Error?

Post by rudeboie »

-If MediaMonkey is stalled while syncing, and you pull out the iPod will this give the iPod a fatal error?

I would figure that at worst, you might have to reformat/restore.

I was syncing my Ipod 3rd Gen 40 gig a few weeks ago when MM seemed to stall and I pulled out the iPod. Not sure if I tried to close MM first or why I pulled out the iPod. But I did, and the iPod gave me a service error- couldn't reformat or restore the iPod because the updater would report a hard drive error. (You then can't do anything with the IPod except to get it serviced for repair)

I've actually had this problem with the iPod before, when I was using ITunes. I've been trying to get Best Buy to replace my iPod completely, but they'll only do so after 5 repairs.

So now it's in repair for the 5th time.

-Also, do you really have to undock the iPod before removing it from its cradle?

I normally undock, but sometimes I do reset my computer or turn it off unexpectedly and I would figure at those times, the iPod isn't being undocked with its normal process.

Man, when that happens, restart the computer. It's *very* rare, and restarting does work.

If the iPod still says "do not disconnect" when you get back into windows, it'll resync with itunes, then you can eject it from there.

It totally works.

And yes, you really have to undock. Unless you turn the computer off, or reset it. In my experience, the iPod can deal with that.

Reset iPod

Post by rusty »

I've had this problem with the iPod as well (or at least I think it's the same problem), where my PC indicates that it can no longer recognize the device. To completely reset the iPod and get out of this state, you can try:
