MMW 4.1.0.1691 crashes after ~10-20 lyrics/art lookups

This has now happened about 4 times, always different songs.
I have Search & Save both turned on for both Lyrics and Art.
I am just clicking through a list of songs w/o lyrics, and at somewhere between 10 and 20 songs, it just goes out to lunch, and never comes back. After a few minutes, it may notify me of a crash, and I have sent the report.

I *think* this is a trace file from one of the crashes, although I am not sure - I had been looking in the wrong place for them.

Up to about 8 times. Very reliably crashes the same way every time.

MMW 4.1.0.1691 Can't lookup metadata after ~10-20 lookups

1691 Debug on Win7x64, Core2Quad E6600, 8GB RAM, ~27K tracks in library
I have Search & Save both turned on for both Lyrics and Art.

I am just playing 10-30 seconds of songs w/o lyrics, and at somewhere around 10 and 20 songs, it takes FOREVER to return from looking up lyrics, and generally never finds them.

Restarting fixes it....until I've looked up 10-20 lyrics.

Thinking this may be related to http://www.mediamonkey.com/forum/viewto ... =7&t=75373

Maybe zombie threads/resources never cleaned up?

Although RAM doesn't seem to be growing (100MB), and CPU is low (<10% Core2Duo E6600).

Maybe this is related? http://www.mediamonkey.com/forum/viewto ... =7&t=75397

That happened, then I shut down MM, restarted MM, and a few songs later the crash in *this* topic happened yet again - I included the 2 forum bug report numbers in the MMW crash report that was sent.

Not sure what happened with that link above - it was a valid post yesterday...

More research: it seems that at least some of the lookup is done with background threads, and it spins off more than one.
Is there a limit?

I clicked on multiple files with the "Selected" pane showing, and each time it says "Searching for lyrics". Eventually, lyrics appeared for multiple songs.

OK, made a little headway here: I think this might be correlated with background scanning, and/or media playing.

After restarting MM again, I made sure to let it settle down, and finish the background scan, before trying any Lyrics lookups.
I have been able to do ~100+ lyrics/art searches, without a crash.

I am also not playing the song I am looking up lyrics for: I use the "Selected" pane, let it do its' thing, THEN double click the song to play it and verify it got the right lyrics. (BTW, it would be nice if there was a quick way to clear and mark the auto-search lyrics as wrong, if it found the wrong ones, so it doesn't keep looking them up - right now I just paste in my own 'manual lookup' tag).

Thinking maybe the heavy load of the scan (or playing), coupled with threaded metadata lookup and/or thread interaction, leads to several metadata lookup threads, all of which are taking even longer because of the CPU load from the scan....and then downhill from there...

Hi, I cannot replicate the issue, but based on the log it doesn't seem to be related to lyrics/artwork lookup, but it freezes when playing, the callstack is exactly the same as in case of this issue: http://www.ventismedia.com/mantis/view.php?id=11313

I don't think that lyrics/artwork lookup could have an influence, I guess it was just a coincidence?
But maybe a tagging operation could have an influence on this, did you enable 'Save lyrics/artwork automatically' ?
If you enable artwork/lyrics again, is the crash reproducable?

Yes, I have lookup & save automatically both enabled for both lyrics and artwork.

Yes, it Is reproducible - it was happening every time I tried, while it was background scanning - it crashed maybe 8-10 times in a row. Each time MM would go to "not responding", but eventually give me the "submit report", so I did.

This last time, I restarted again, but just happened to not get around to tagging until it had finished the full scan.
I have not restarted MM since that full scan - it has stayed up, and I have tagged a few hundred tracks now, no problems. Before, I couldn't get more than 20 tracks before a crash.

FYI I'm on a Core 2 Duo E6600 / 2.4GHz, so an older CPU - maybe you have a much faster machine, so the impact of the scan isn't as great?

But I will shut it down and re-try during the scan when I get some time, and see if it happens again.

Hmmmm....just read the Mantis on the freeze-up....I was playing the files while tagging - maybe that could have intersected.

I'll add that to my re-try later.

Ok, looks like it's all about the playing while the scan is happening, NOT the tagging.

This was my test & recreate:
Start 1691dbg
Background scan running the whole time.
Auto-download & save lyrics and art enabled.
I was able to go through 30 auto-lyrics & art without a problem, *only* selecting the track, and viewing the lyrics appear in the "Selected" pane. Never crashed.
So then I started double-clicking (playing) tracks while the scan was still running, and within 5-7 tracks, it froze. Report submitted.

I still had auto-download & save lyrics & art enabled, but you don't think that's related, right? Or should I try recreating with those off?

BTW, I just have the defaults for the MM DirectSound output device (ie track cross-fade, etc.) if that matters.

I spoke too soon - I just submitted another crash, this time with NO tracks playing:
"Updated an artist. Auto-lookup lyrics & art + auto-save them turned ON.

NOT playing any music."

I did the three following things, don't remember exactly what order:
I changed an artist to get it to lookup the original version's lyrics of a given track.
I copied the lyrics to another track.
I changed the one artist back.

Then it froze, and presented the "Submit error" dialog.

But MM did not close - seems to still be working.

This also seems to happen frequently when I have 2 tabs opened, showing all tracks, one sorted by Artist, the other by Title.

I'll update the lyrics in one tab, then when I switch to the other tab, I get the "Submit error" dialog popup.

I'm wondering if it's being triggered because it has to update/refresh the changed tracks (ie now with lyrics) in the tab I am switching to?

Could it have anything to do with http://www.mediamonkey.com/forum/viewto ... =7&t=75506 "Slow Lyrics render: 16 seconds to show in Selected panel"
