Sync problem with Creative Zen Vision: M

Postby videoassets » Sun Jan 22, 2006 8:55 am

I just received a Zen Vision: M and am syncing with MM, which I also just loaded. The M properly comes up in the tree as a Windows Media device (no drive) and transfers the tracks fine. The problem is that MM doesn't stop the process after the tracks are synced. It still says "syncronizing" and I have to disconnect the player to release the software. I tried the "unmount the device" option, but no luck.

Probably just a newbie thing, but I'm stumped. Any thoughts out there.

Have you tried to keep it running for a longer time (several minutes)? MM synchronizes playlists in the end and as discussed in other threads here this is pretty lenghty operation on some devices.

Yes, I did that. When I did my first sync (2500 tunes), I left it sit for a while before I checked it, so I'm sure it had ample time. I only had a few playlists too. Could it be a playlist incompatability?

Thanks.

You can try the debug version, its log would tell for sure whether/what is MM doing.

Well, I've deleted some of the random playlists and successfully synced a small number of files. One thing I've learned about the Zen Vision: M is that it doesn't like unfilled album tags. I've got to tag them "unknown" or I can't see the titles under an artist after syncing.

I'll try the full synce next. Thanks for the help.

It would be nice to hear...how the Player has been working in Mediamonkey. Any other problems? I am thinking about buying Creative Zen Vision: M.

Everything's working fine with MM now. What seems to have solved my sync problem was turning on the "Delete tracks that aren't on the Auto-Sync list from the device" function. As I was editing tags, the old versions were not being deleted. But syncing ends properly now.

Otherwise, the playlists show up fine and once I cleaned up my tags, MM does a great job organing the device. The bundled Creative software just doesn't have the tag editing power of MM. AND I did a search for synchronize in the help section of Creative MediaSource (the main music organizer tool) and nothing came up. You can certainly rip and transfer files with it, but I'm not sure it will sync the list when you add & delete like MM.

The Zen Vision:M is great, but the navigation takes a bit of getting used to; both the sensitivity and layout. The video is awesome too, but it's not the mail reason I bought it. Good luck.

It takes 30 minutes on my Vision M too

I get the same problem. With a 4100 track library on the device, it appears to "hang" at 100% complete for 30 minutes or so. I ran the debug version and it appears to do the following steps over and over at the end of the sync process.

It does this at about 2-3 tracks per second, which for 4100 tracks = 30 minutes. I have an email in to their tech support to address it.
