Better rating user interface (2nd post)

Post by UncleBoarder »

Here's rk's original post...
I would very much appreciate if the rating would take place like in iTunes or Musicmatch: Simply click into a bar of stars instead of opening up a value list.

I re-posted the topic so we would have a poll.

I mostly Use D&D For Rating and mass Tagging. Accidental Clicking can be devastating for me. But some sort of that solution could be usefull.

D&D = Drag and drop
Extensions: ExternalTools, ExtractFields, SongPreviewer, LinkedTracks, CleanImport, and some other scripts (Need Help with Addons > List of All Scripts).

Personally I right click on my taskbar monkey to rate the currently playing song. Works well for me! :)
Download my scripts at my own MediaMonkey fansite.

Yeah, I'm also scared of accidental clicking.

I'd like to see it optional for those who like it to enable, and those who don't to disable.

This will probably be included in the "mini" (standalone) player that is probably being developed ( http://www.mediamonkey.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=7330 ) by Peke.
Anyway, I'm not such a rating person. I only rate my best tracks, with the highest scores. Not doing it a lot so it's not very required for me.
But this kind of rating will certainly be useful to others, I can imagine.

Cheers

Accidental clicking sucks, and it's not that hard to right-click or use the toolbar for this. Best thing about MM, all these different ways to do the same thing.

it seems that the main reason people dislike this idea is because it could cause accidental clicking.

I personally love the idea.. it's so much more efficient - I miss it dearly from itunes.

I think a good solution would be to have a global shortcut.. normally, the rating column is not single click editable.. but holding down alt (or another button) would make it single click editable until you let go the button (obviously highlighting the stars as you 'rollover' and committing when you click as mentioned previously)

My "BrowseByArt" Playing node has one-click rating (you can even rate an entire album with a single click) so maybe you should take a look at this script.
Download my scripts at my own MediaMonkey fansite.
