There is no launch.exe installed with MediaMonkey.

No, I don't have iTunes installed and you were taking me too literally!

I meant I clicked on the icon to launch Media Monkey within its installation directory, as instructed, i.e. mediamonkey.exe

Hope this clarifies the situation.

Am I to assume (never assume anything) that as there have been no further replies, that:

1. You actually DO need screen shots of the error message seen when starting Media Monkey?

2. Everyone's too busy?

3. Media Monkey/My P.C. system has a serious problem, and the only remaining answer is to wipe and re-install XP?

Would carrying out an anti-virus scan be a good idea?

Hope to hear from you soon.

Thank you.

The reason I said clean everything and only install portable to desktop before is to eliminate confusion about everything that may or may not
be going on and which folder is which. If you did this and it still doesn't work, then it's certain there is something else in the environment and you
should probably try the debug.

Thanks for that reply, MMFrLife.

I have actually done as you suggested: re-installed Media Monkey Portable after running Malwarebytes across the P.C., and lo-and-behold, the situation has got worse! I should add, that no malware threats were found...

This is what I see when launching Media Monkey from within its own installation folder: http://i.imgur.com/3n6ppZR.jpg

You can see what I mean by the previous error message boxes behind, they repeat continually.

Yikes! :(

I don't like to sound pushy, but do I assume that as there have been no further replies, the techincal issues my P.C. system has are outside the scope of this forum, and that I am probably looking at a re-format and re-install of the O.S.?

I am hoping for some good news here people - well I can hope?!

I already suggested you try the debug.

That looks like malware bytes hijacked hook to Open IE windows inside third party application.

Try to HOLD ESC KEY to close all those modal dialogs. also you can try to quickly change to now playing so that MMW do not open WEB Node and IE ActiveX control.

There's been quite a surprising development with all this - well, exciting to me, anyway!

I was just about to carry out the instructions and suggestions above, when I tried opening another piece of software, which also appeared to have problems, so using the Widnose XP boot disc, I went into the Recovery Console and run chkdsk c:/ p & chkdsk c:/ r routines, not expecting either to make any difference.

However, to my surprise, after running the /p switch, it was reported that "changes have been made to the file system", so without any expectation of anything positive at all, I re-booted the P.C. and went back to the Desktop, opening the other piece of software first, which seemed fine.

I then tried Media Monkey (Portable version), opening it again from within the Media Monkey folder, and to my lasting shock, that seemed to work fine too!! :D

This may sound like a stupid question, but what should I do next? I assume that the reason you suggested I try the Portable version was that it works in a similar way to the Safe Mode of Widnose, i.e. if you can't get to the Desktop in Safe Mode, you've got real problems?

Instinct is to un-install the Portable version, and go straight back to the standard version, but I thought I would seek advice from this forum first.Thank you.

You can leave the portable version installed for now and go back to the std install version and see how it works. When you are happy simply delete the MM portable directory

It's not the same thing as Windows Safe Mode. Windows safe mode loads the basic OS and not any other of its features or third-party programs that might
interfere/cause problems with it's normal operations. MM portable just writes most everything to a self-contained .registry "file". It's just not as tied into
the sytem. The typical kinds of things that would cause problems with the general environment can also cause problems with the sofware directly tied into OS.
It's much less so with portable. It's primarily intended for portable storage devices like usb sticks and cards, so you can port it around anywhere you want.
Many people use it on desktops/laptops to keep things cleaner/smoother. I guess, in a way, it's like safe-mode, in that it's safer, but it's not a mode and doesn't
reduce or really takes things away. It just doesn't gunk things up by tieing itself directly to the OS.

You can keep using the portable if you want. For many of us here that's all we use. It does have a couple of more specific limitations, like related to streaming,
if I remember correctly. But for most users it's perfectly fine.

To update the forum, this issue has now got just plain weird! This is the current situation:

As you all suggested, I installed Media Monkey without uninstalling the Portable Version, first time it came up with Error Opening During Initialisation" errors and such like, but once I selected "Now Playing", it seemed fine. I also un-installed Malwayrebytes and re-started the system.

All I have installed is the default Amazon tagger - nothing else - so I tried running Dr. Feelgood's "Primo" through it.

What appears to be happening with both versions is that Media Monkey is tagging, but in the 'tagging box'' that appears after pressing CTRL+L, in the middle where all the detail such as Lyrics and Artwork can be selected or otherwise, it is just a plain white box with nothing at all that can be seen.

I'm not sure if this is better or worse, as in being an easier problem to solve?

Sort of yes, but those posts suggest that only the Lyrics, Artwork, and Comments section are pure white, for me the whole window that opens after pressing CTRL+L is white.

I still have the search bar, where the search and options buttons are, and the "Undo" button at the bottom, but the area within the window where one can normally see the artwork, year, record label, etc., is just pure white.

Hope that helps?

Are you talking about Edit Properties, Art & Details pane, or the File List?
It's likely related to the same issue.
Can you post a screenshot?
