In order to configure which Tracks and Playlists should be automatically synchronized to a device, the list of tracks and playlists can be configure via Tools > Options > Portable/Audio Devices > Auto-Synchronization List . Note that these settings apply specifically to the use of auto-synchronization (and not manual synchronization of selected tracks).
This option causes auto-synchronization operations to copy the entire library to your portable device. This option should be chosen when your portable device has more than enough storage space for your entire collection.
This option causes synchronization operations to copy a subset of the entire library to your portable device, the subset being a defined set of Playlists, AutoPlaylists, Artists, or Albums. This gives you tremendous flexibility in deciding what Tracks to copy if your portable device has limited storage space:
This option will cause each synchronization operation to sync a random subset of the selected tracks, and fill up the device as much as possible. This is very useful when you have a small flash memory device like the iPod Shuffle and want a random selection of your tracks synched on each occasion. The 'Synchronize higher-rated Tracks more often' option' ensures that preference is given to tracks with higher ratings.
Enabling Advanced mode causes two additional columns to appear: 'Destination' and 'Copy .m3u'.
By changing the value in the 'Destination' column, it is possible to override the default synchronization destination settings with a custom destination per track. This is useful, for example, if you wish to synchronize Audio Books to a different path than Music tracks. See Configuring Directory and Filename Formats .
By changing the value in the 'Copy .m3u' column, it is possible to override the default .m3u settings so that, for example, .m3u files are copied only for a specific playlist.
