Customizing Skins & Icons

MediaMonkey's look and feel is completely customizable by editing skins and/or icons.

Skins

MediaMonkey skins contain skinning information within a .wsz file in the \Program Files\MediaMonkey\Skins\ directory. The .wsz file can be opened in Winzip, though it's also possible to have skins that are simply saved uncompressed in a .\Skins\ subdirectory (e.g. \Program Files\MediaMonkey\Skins\BlueMonkey\ ). Skins contain the following information:

  1. Player bitmaps. These are bitmaps that determine the look of the player component of MediaMonkey. In general, skins that are compatible with Winamp 2 are also compatible with MediaMonkey. They can be edited with most standard graphics editors. The following bitmaps are used in the player:
    balance.bmp
    cbuttons.bmp
    main.bmp
    monoster.bmp
    nums_ex.bmp
    playpaus.bmp
    posbar.bmp
    shufrep.bmp
    text.bmp
    titlebar.bmp
    volume.bmp
  2. Background bitmaps: these define the background used within some of the major skin panels. They can be edited by most standard graphics editors:
    sdb_background_tree.bmp
    sdb_background_list.bmp
    sdb_background_playing.bmp
  3. MediaMonkey Theme: this defines the overall look and feel of MediaMonkey (e.g. titlebars, borders, buttons, etc.). These files can be edited only with Theme Engine's Theme Editor (this is a bit more complex task than simply editing a graphic):
    theme.mskn

Once you've edited and resaved the files, start MediaMonkey and select the new skin from the Tools > Options > Appearance > Skin menu. Your work of art should appear.

Icons

MediaMonkey icons can also be easily customized, by editing icons with a standard icon editor and placing them to a new directory at :

\Program Files\MediaMonkey\Icons\

Note that you'll have to restart MediaMonkey for the new icons to appear.
