Configuring Synchronization Options

To configure the the format of files to be synchronized to a device visit: Tools > Options > Portable/Audio Devices > Synchronization Options

Synchronize Tracks to

This setting allows you to specify the directory structure and filename format used for Tracks that are copied to your portable device. For example to achieve the format of. K:\Music\U2\The Joshua Tree\U2 - Where the Streets Have No Name.mp3, enter \Music\<Artist\<Album>\'<Artist> - <Title> in this field, and all Tracks will be copied in this format. Alternatively you can just enter <Path> and the existing directory structure will be used. See Configuring Directory and Filename Formats .

Copy .m3u Playlists

For devices that do not have their own databases, .m3u playlists can be used to play any given set of tracks in any given order. By enabling this option, .m3u playlist files are also copied to a specified directory on the device for each Artist / Album / Playlist that is synched so that you can play any set of tracks by playing the playlist (instead of trying to manually assemble the playlist on the device). Note that some devices do not support .m3u playlists.

See: Tag and Playlist Configuration (for information about .m3u files or tags that may not be recognized by the device)

Auto-Synchronization Settings

These settings apply specifically to the use of auto-synchronization (and not manual synchronization of selected tracks).

Delete Tracks that aren't on the Auto-Synchronization list from the device

This causes Tracks on the device to be automatically deleted to make room for the new Tracks that are on the Auto-Synchronization List. In general, this option should be enabled, but make certain to copy Tracks to your hard drive before synchronizing if:

      • You've added Tracks to your device from another computer and these tracks do not exist in your Library
      • You've modified the tags of Tracks on your device but not in the Library

Files are deleted only if there are file types supported by MediaMonkey and if they are not contained within directories in the 'Except Folders:' list.

Auto-Synchronize Tracks from the device to the PC

This causes Tracks that have been synched from the Library to the device to be synched back to the Library if the copy on the device is more recent than the copy in the Library. It does not yet synchronize Tracks that are on the device but not in the Library.

Note that Track attributes such as Ratings and Play History will be synced back to the device even if this option is not enabled (this option applies only to the track itself and not to properties that are, for example, stored in the iPod's database).

Auto-Synchronize as soon as the device is connected

This causes auto-synchronization to be initiated whenever the device is plugged into the PC.

Automatically unmount device after Auto-Synchronize

This causes the device to be automatically disconnected after auto-synchronization has completed.
