Synchronizing Tracks to Portable Devices

You can easily synchronize your Tracks and associated metadata (Album Art, play history, etc.) with iPods and most popular portable devices or media servers and subsequently manage the contents of that device. There are several means of doing so:

    • Automatic Synchronization (Auto-Synchronize): This is the simplest and most powerful means of device synchronization. It allows you to synchronize the entire library or a subset thereof. The subset may be defined by a set of playlists or AutoPlaylists, which means that pretty much any criteria can be used to define which Tracks to synchronize.
    • Manual Synchronization (Synchronize-Selected): This option is useful when you want to manually select a set of files and playlists to be synchronized to your portable device.
    • Manual Copying: This is useful when you want to perform one-time operations that ignore synchronization settings

Once a device has been configured and connected, it appears as a node in the Tree. From this node it is possible to view/edit/delete/copy tracks on the device (depending on the device and the plug-in used), and if the device has it's own database, to update the device database. Note that tracks that appear in this node are not part of the Library.

Automatic Synchronization

  1. Configure your device, including synchronization options and the auto-synchronization list.
  2. Set the mode of the Synchronize button on the toolbar to Auto-Synchronize , and if multiple devices exist, choose one using the small button adjacent to the Synchronize button.
  3. Connect your device to your PC and click the Synchronize button.

Tracks and Playlists will be synchronized with your device per your configuration.

Synchronizing Manually Selected Tracks

  1. Configure your device, including synchronization options.
  2. Set the mode of the Synchronize button on the toolbar to Synchronize Selected (using the small button adjacent to the synchronize button), and if multiple devices exist, select one.
  3. Connect your device to your PC.
  4. If there's not much space available on the device, delete some Tracks via the Device node.
  5. Select a Playlist, AutoPlaylist, or group of Tracks and click the Synchronize button, or from the Now Playing Dialog, click Copy > Copy to Portable Device.

Selected  Tracks and Playlists will be synched to your device and automatically organized on the device per your configuration.

Copying Tracks Manually

To simply copy tracks to a device without using synchronization functionality, use the Send To > Folder (My Computer) option that is available when right-clicking any Track.  This will only work for USB Mass Storage devices.

Disconnecting a Portable Device

MediaMonkey can be configured to automatically close the connection to the PC after synchronization.  If this feature is not enabled, then take the following steps to disconnect:

  • With an iPod or USB Mass Storage Device, click 'Safely Remove Device' to terminate the connection.
  • With an 'Plays for Sure Device' simply disconnect the device (no 'Safely Remove Device' option is provided).
