Did you set it to MusicBrainz under Tools > Options > Network?

Hi,
First upgrade to latest version at viewtopic.php?f=6&t=54426&sd=d and for FreeDB (http) you can select mb.mediamonkey.com or try to use Music brainz. One should work.

Freedb

MM already created a solution for MediaMonkey 4: https://www.mediamonkey.com/forum/viewt ... 54426&sd=d and one for MediaMonkey 5 already existed.

Update your MM software to the latest beta version. The problem is solved there.
Beta versions only clean up BUGS. There are no new developments.

Freedb - replacement?

by weecelt » Sat Jun 27, 2020 12:35 pm

I've searched the forum but can't find a simple answer to this.

All I want to do is replace freedb with an alternative so I can look up my cds before ripping.

I don't want to install a beta version or use an alternative program to rip.

There must be away to amend a setting to point to a different lookup website?

And why haven't MM created an update for 4.1 that deals with the end of freedb?

OK, I must have just had a couple obscure discs last night. I tried a few more last night, and several this morning, and saw that it was pulling correct data for most of the discs without any intervention from me. That error notice I was getting was telling me exactly what it said: not that the connection wasn't working, but that the info was "Not Found".

Thanks!

I installed this release, the fix didn't change anything, except the error message when I click the FreeDB button has changed:
"There was an error while connecting to musicbrainz.org: HTTP/1.1 404 Not Found"

Ctrl-L still lets me do the search at MusicBrainz, but it's the same process as it was before this update. What am I missing?

Need a replacement music lookup database suggestion or alternative player to MediaMonkey

by Bespin1138 » Mon Jun 15, 2020 4:11 pm

Hi:

I do not know if this is the right location for this topic. I currently use MediaMonkey 4.1. MediaMonkey has served me well in general for the last 5 or so years after the demise of Winamp. I have just learned that Freedb is no longer running and I have no desire to go through the process of re-ripping my music collection and input the CD album info manually.
My questions are:
1. Is there is an alternative music lookup database that I can add on to MediaMonkey? If so, what is it and how do I add it to MediaMonkey?
2. If there is no alternative music lookup database available for the player, what alternative music player/ripper would you recommend that is reliable, allows me to set it to get the cleanest rip possible when ripping my CDs, allows me to create, edit, and import/export playlists, and is compatible with my Sony NW-A45 MP3 player (either built-in or through an add-on or extension)? I am looking at both paid and free options.

Thanks

MediaMonkey 4's next release should have an alternative, MediaMonkey 5 already does. You can also use Auto-Tag from Web with the Discogs Tagger in the meanwhile if you enter Album and Album Artist.

DennyMo wrote: Fri Jun 12, 2020 2:27 pm Freedb look-ups still worked for me until this last night, so looks like the ride is over. How do I set up MM4 to look at musicbrainz or another db for CD info?
A better choice is to use a better ripping program, such as dbpoweramp or exact audio copy (the latter is free). Both give you more options for metadata than MM and more options for how the cd is ripped. I have been using dbpoweramp for more than 3 years and would never consider the inadequate ripper in MM (or even the one in MM5) again.
Why do you consider ripper in MM inadequate especially for FLAC?
