I love those waveform pics, it's great to have an impression of dynamics/compression as well.

Sounds good - I found that it's Sox which makes the waveform for
soundcloud - annoyingly, my host won't compile Sox for me!

As for frameworks, for a small quick site, I don't see that it would
be easier to install and learn a new framework and coding methodology
over just using plain old php5 and various third party classes? I'll
have to read more about it!

Welcome aprudy,
I assigned original post to you so that topic is yours. Let us know if you want to move it in Addons forum.

that moodbar is kinda interesting... a relative neophyte with these things, it looks like I'm going to have to install C++ and some other things en route to installing the moodbar. I'll probably wait until after I'm done grading papers from the end of the semester. :P thanks so much!

Hello aprudy.

I got your pm.
What you could do is ask a moderator to move this thread to the "Need Help with Addons?" sub forum.

Btw: there is an addon that generates a mood-bar similar to Amarok's moodbar functionality.
It's not exactly what you're looking for but it gives a visual clue.

Thanks for all this!
I'll look over the skins, though a plug-in would be just fine, too.
I'm interested in this because I review a lot of new music and would love to have an electronic equivalent to the analog experience I had reviewing LPs i the long ago and far away time of my college radio pasts. Being able to "drop a needle", to place the progress line, at tempo breaks, volume changes, etc would be a great service (at least to me)... I'd dreamed of CD players providing that kind of visual cue since they came out, reviewing LPs was SO much faster because you could see where you most needed to listen.

so he wants the developers to use the sine wave image used for editing the song's in wav editors.
thats too much for adding in to the monkey as mentioned it will have to be a plugin but not the script style it will
have to be an app made to work with monkey. so each one of those images could be programed to show like that.

i personely don't think it best to use that image in anything other then the wav editors where it was ment to be used.

putting that in a media program that does not have anything to do with editing will confuse the new users of the program
as they will be looking for the editng controls.

no i vote not to add this in.

but i vote for it to be used in a plugin that can be selected by the user if they want it. 8)

mediamonkey has a built in av effect that does that according to the rythm of the sound peeks and valleys. just check all the skins to see which you want. i've made just about any type of av effect i can think of for the skins one of them
should be to your liking either my skins or one of the others that make skins will have one.

progress bar waveform?

by aprudy » Wed Dec 08, 2010 8:27 am

this may already be simple or there may already be a plug-in, but I can't figure this out or find one...
one of the things I love about soundcloud.com is the waveform visualization which provides a graphic representation of the intensity/breaks/etc. of the music.
I would love to have the song progress bar in MediaMonkey have that kind of visual data.
does this already exist? is it a reasonable thing to consider?
thanks
