I find the the MM3 tagging is a lot slower (maybe x3 times) than MM2 :(
My machines hangs too esp if I try to tag a lot of tracks at once

I enjoy having an alternative to iTunes, but MM is soooo unstable I am about to switch back. If I can get it to load one more time and export the DB (incl a thousand song ratings) I'm outta here.

I agree on both. :D

Trying to move into the digital age I always struggled trying to get itunes to do what i wanted it to. Then i was shown the monkey 3 and it was so much better that i went gold. I think the data handling (read music library) is great. I expect this is because the monkey was first trained to be a digital music library. Standard display is ok by me and i don't need video.

Now here is my rant.
On the downside it does not seem to have any or much training for other basic functions that i and others want. Specifically a native "Print Jewel Case Insert" (prob. the best thing on itunes). Also problems burning to disc (MP3/Data especially), Just look at the amount of entries concerning this in 'Help' and 'Bug' forums. If people are having trouble getting it to do what it knows how maybe the functions need to be made easier to use !
I know my issues are going 'backwards', to physical from digital, but that really means they should be well sorted by now.
I see lots of development work going into iphone and ithis and ithat compatability. Because i'm behind the times I just want some basics done well. Pleeeze.

nohitter151 i have to agree with on that it has been set up for us to put in the skins. but some just don't bother as some don't bother to add the auto dj button either. or bother to come back and update their skins for the new version of mediamonkey.

its a shame they don't all put all the buttons in. looks like nohitter151 and me try to do what should be done for the skins lots more then the others. i think eyal does also but i see some skins though that they don't add everything in them i'm not putting any skin down for that cause to each his own way of thinking. but rather i take it more to be that some is hard to fit in their theme for their skin and some just might be out of their skinning skill. but i hope they will all have a good user group as it is hard to think of a scheme and a theme for the skins. unless you just go nuts and make what ever you think of at the moment to be a skin then thats easy to do. :)

No, thats wrong. As a skinner (who has made 5 skins already), I know it can be added to any skin. It just seems as though no one has wanted to add it in. It IS implemented.
Are there any skins yet that have a balance control, or some way of accessing it manually? I'm trying to fix the balance problem mentioned on page 3 of this thread...

I'm resurrecting an old thread here, but I'm curious as to how things have progressed with MM3.

Is the latest revision stable? Have most glitches been worked out? Is it time for me to finally upgrade and migrate my stuff over from ver. 2.5.5.xxx?

Thx!

I'd be really intetrested to hear updated opinions from MM3 users, now that 3.0.3 is out, particularly if the crashes/freezes/refuse to shut issues have been addressed, and if there is a skin which is the equivalent of Luna Dock + Override Skin them with Windows theme - wihch gives the small player applet, as opposed to that huge window-consuming thing in previous iterations of MM3

Theres already a script available for backing up your database among other important MM files - Trixmoto's backup script.

I have been using it for a while. I am not planning on going back as their is no looking back at this point. I have found that I have corrupted the database several times. I get many database errors most of them I am not certain what they mean or are. I have tried to research them an I have not seen anything on the forums or knowledge articles. I continue on and hope that it does not persist and most go away. I have set-up my database with =1 setting for robustness as I did have one big crash and it corrupted from that.

I have had many issues trying to get songs to start playing, click on this and that and to no avail. I am not certain what the cause of that is. I have had issues with songs as it is playing on auto, the next song starting in the middle of the song or even skipping back and forth from different points in the song.

All in all since the move from 2.5 I have seen many issues of stability. I do a lot of updating when I am working so I am always moving between songs. My database is somewhere near the 7K area of quantity of songs.

I love MM but it needs some tuning. It would be nice if the database had some more utilities to help protect the integrity or resolve issues. I now have several copies of the file to protect myself from further data loss and as soon as I can script it I will have it auto back-up to another location for extra-extra protection until the guys at MM get it right.

After a couple of hours of playing with MM3 on a spare machine, I think I'm going to uninstall.

I have had a number of issues, some major some minor:
1) I really dislike the wide screen-filling player bar, and annoyed that there's not an alternative out of the box. Having now scanned about a dozen other skins and not found one that I like, I'm ready to go back to MM2 - the skin wasn't perfect, but at least it did what I liked

2) Had persistent problems where player showed a track paused, and it would refuse to go into play. I think this is triggered if you click on the monkey icon in the taskbar to stop a track while it's playing - but the only way out of this seems to be to stop/re-start MM

3) On some occasions, unable to shut MM down - neither File/Exit, [x] button, nor option from the systray icon would close it.

4) Having laboriously got the screen to the best configuration I could, I exited MM, and re-started it ... and the screen was back to a slightly-changed version of the default - it had kept the title bars switched off, but lost all my other changes. Next time I did this, it saved the changes correctly

5) MM£ is really pernickity about where the cursor is, when you want to switch title bars on, once you've switched them off.

OTOH, I liked the integrated podcast downloader.

For me, the negatives outweigh the positives by a large amount - I'll have another look after it's been upgraded a couple more times, but I'm not going to upgrade my main machine, and I'm going to take this one back to 2.5 ASAP.
