Okay,

that was a journey ;-). I gave the same rights to my main alpha installation as the firewall gave them to my standard MM4 installation ... and .. it worked :).

What i don't understand is, why should MM need free ingoing from public networks to work within my private network? And why did the image search work though ingoing connections (from public networks) were blocked til yesterday evening?

Here is the situation before i have changed the rights. You can see all my mm installations and how the firewall was set.

https://www.dropbox.com/s/bzvxhxn8x7vc2 ... g.png?dl=0

Sorry it is in german ;-)

öffentlich = public
ja = yes
nein = no
zulassen = allow
blockieren = block
beliebig = at will (if leo.org is right)

By the way: The MM 5 library is shown in my Sonos system now as well.

Heading to the bathroom to start the day ;-)

Greetings

MM4 does work as expected with my standard installation. It does NOT work as expected when in portable mode. Ludek? Can this help?
Yes, I guess it must be related to firewall, as standard installation tries to auto-configure default Windows firewall by adding firewall rules like:
MediaMonkey auto-conf ....
while portable install doesn't do this.

I guess that once you disable firewall then it starts to work?

I entered the issue as https://www.ventismedia.com/mantis/view.php?id=15176

Hi Barry, hi MM5 Staff,

all things you/Barry mentioned in your/his last posting i already did before. MM Server(s) are not visible in my Sonos though Asset Server(s) do.

Hi,

you have to do two things first.

1. On the Sonos: on a mobile controller go to More|Settings|Advanced and check 'Show UPnP Servers"

2. In MM5: Tools|Options|Library|MediaSharing ... enable the Mediamonkey servers checkbox ... I also pressed the Options button to rename it, so that I didn;t confused between MM4 & MM5 .. and I Updated the Options SharedContent list to select just the indices that I wanted to see in my Sonos controller. ... check all tabs to make sure that nothing is locking out your Sonos zones

I have not looked into it properly, but I can't see MM$ and MM5 servers at the same (even though they have different names) ... So close MM4 if it is open ... and I think that you have to stop and then restart MM5, after step 2 above, before it becomes visible in Sonos.

After configuring those two options you should see MediaMonkey in the Sonos "Select a Music Source" list

re your theory about portable MM5 installations. Maybe you are onto something, but as reported it all works ok for me .. and my MM5 is a portable install.

And now to Barry's remarks and questions:
It is not clear to me what method BMF is using to trying to play on the Sonos.
I simply do a right click on the player and choose 'play to' :-). I don't use the Sonos (desktop) controller to navigate. And as i wrote in my last posting. My Sonos system can't see the MM servers or libraries. Bubble Upnp (Android tablet) cannot neither.
I don't ever see the album art on Sonos controllers ... probably because I don't have track art embbeded in my tracks...
I do both. I have got a folder.jpg AND i embbed the track art in my tracks.

are your Sonos units wired, or WiFi?
You get the same problem with a Sonos zone wired via Ethernet cable?
I've got both. Wired and WiFi. The problem is the same.

You could try rebooting your Sonos units.
I did. No positive effect though.

If no success, try submitting a diagnostic to Sonos, and ask them for assistance.
I would if no program could get access to the Sonos, but Bubble Upnp does.

It works for you with MM4? ... or do you have the same issues with MM4?
MM4 is working as expected...... STOP ..... as i said in my last posting answering to Ludek's questions. MM4 does work as expected with my standard installation. It does NOT work as expected when in portable mode. Ludek? Can this help? (i have updated my last posting too for i don't know if you already read it yet.)

Hi Ludek,
What are the error messages on Sonos?
"Playback from "Song name" not possible - Connection with 192.*my network".21:20266 not possible (word by word translation from german to english)"

Is it still that artwork is shown on Sonos, but the file isn't playable?
yes

You indicated that it started with MM5 build 2123, but then you edited that it was rather caused by Sonos update?
I did that to give more information. I am not sure if there is a relation.

Can you test older builds (or MM4) whether it still works with your Sonos?
It works all fine with my MM4 installation. As my MM4 library contains other paths to music i put some of the "MM4 paths" to the MM5 library. But that was a wrong idea. In MM5 the tracks aren't played.

UPDATE: Answering to the posting of Barry i found out: MM4 is working as expected ...... with my standard installation. It does NOT work as expected when in portable mode. Ludek? Can this help?

I can play the tracks that i cannot send with MM5 with bubble upnp over my android tablet using an asset server from dbpoweramp. MM libraries or servers are not shown on my android tablet. Can this be a helpful information or is it just tmi?

I discovered the "play to feature" for me in april of last year (you can find my astonished reaction in one of my postings, for i did not know that it was already implemented in MM4). I will install an alpha of that time and give you the results later on.

Update: i tried it with the alpha 2064 from april 2017 ... no music playing over the play to feature. Sorry.

It is not clear to me what method BMF is using to trying to play on the Sonos.

Method 1. I can can change MM5 to play to my Sonos (Tools|Options|Player|Stream set to one of my Sonos units).
Then select a track using MM5, and select Play from the right click menu ... select another couple of tracks and right click PlayNext

All tracks play as expected

The usual problem with the Sonos controller when used in this mode; ie. it shows album & track name .. no art, no artist name, no visibility of the queue, not even any view of what is next ... pause and back to the begining buttons work, but not skip forward.)

Method 2. Or I can configure MM5 for sharing (Tools|Library|MediaSharing) including giving it a new server name, so I am sure that it is not the MM$ server that I am using
Open a Sonos controller, browse to the MM5 server, and play a track

Works as expected; actually I don't expect too much, as Sonos does not support DLNA servers as a source very well ... so I can queue a track, but can't queue an album, can't multiple select tracks on the mobile Sonos controllers, see no art on the Sonos controllers, but skip forward works here, I can't see the queue, but I can see what track will play next ...etc etc

It is probably not relevant, but I am on a beta version of the Sonos s/w .... am pretty sure that it is not relevant ... I don't believe that there are changes that would affect what BMF is reporting.

BMF wrote: Sat Oct 06, 2018 4:32 am I may add that the Sonos system receives the folder.jpg. It is shown. Though the music is missing.
I don't ever see the album art on Sonos controllers ... probably because I don't have track art embbeded in my tracks ... my track art is in Folder.jpg, ie. one only file in the album folder

Ludek wrote: Mon Oct 15, 2018 4:27 am If yes, then there are two possibilities for the playback error:
a) Sonos can access the file, but the file format is unplaybable on Sonos, to verify you can set auto-conversion FLAC > MP3 or try to play a MP3 file to Sonos to see whether it plays then?
b) Sonos fails to access the IP address for some reason 192.168.188.21 , go to Options > Media Sharing > Server > [Server] tab and change IP address to another choice there.
Firstly Sonos plays flac natively w/o transcoding.. all my tracks are flac.

There are other possibilities.

BMF, are your Sonos units wired, or WiFi?
You get the same problem with a Sonos zone wired via Ethernet cable?

You could try rebooting your Sonos units.
The latest Sonos version made some internal changes to the way that Sonos zones are grouped and re-grouped ... I saw some third party controller people reporting this.
If no success, try submitting a diagnostic to Sonos, and ask them for assistance.

It works for you with MM4? ... or do you have the same issues with MM4?

What are the error messages on Sonos?
Is it still that artwork is shown on Sonos, but the file isn't playable? If yes, then it doesn't look like <IP:port> issue (as artwork URI and track URI use same <IP:Port>)
You indicated that it started with MM5 build 2123, but then you edited that it was rather caused by Sonos update? Can you test older builds (or MM4) whether it still works with your Sonos?
What the other users having Sonos, are you seeing the issues too? Barry?

Re: The Sonos*** player is turned off or inaccessible. [2123]

Hi there Ludek,
1) put http://192.168.188.21:12904/ItemID=1.flac into address bar of an internet browser (Chrome/Firefox) or just click the link here (when MM5 is running) to verify that the file is accessible and playable on the network
The browser doesn't play the file with this link. But it did, when i created the dubug log. When i try to send the same flac to Sonos today it is the link http://192.168.188.21:10276/ItemID=1.flac. I can play it within the browser.
If yes, then there are two possibilities for the playback error:
a) Sonos can access the file, but the file format is unplaybable on Sonos, to verify you can set auto-conversion FLAC > MP3 or try to play a MP3 file to Sonos to see whether it plays then?
b) Sonos fails to access the IP address for some reason 192.168.188.21 , go to Options > Media Sharing > Server > [Server] tab and change IP address to another choice there.
to a) I have converted 3 tracks of the album to mp3 and added them to the now playing list. The effect is the same, though in the error message of Sonos the number after the ":" was a different one again.

to b) I can chose between automatic and the known ip. Still no music over Sonos. And again another number after the ":".

Sorry for no good news. Any other ideas? By the way: Sonos can access the flac file via an asset server.

greetings

Hi, thx,
in the log I see that for the file
L:\DGG 1\01 Brahms 21 Ungarische Tnze [Abbado]\01 Claudio Abbado - Hungarian Dance N 1 in G Minor (Allegro Molto).flac
MM5 generated this URI:
http://192.168.188.21:12904/ItemID=1.flac

And the "Schlafzimmer - Sonos Connect Media Renderer" reported status 'TRANSITIONING' for the file for several seconds, then 'STOPPED' so it has failed to play the file.

1) put http://192.168.188.21:12904/ItemID=1.flac into address bar of an internet browser (Chrome/Firefox) or just click the link here (when MM5 is running) to verify that the file is accessible and playable on the network

So many questions so little time. But i will begin to deliver answers :)
if you go to
Options > Media Sharing > Server > [Server] tab
what is the IP address there?
There is a concrete ip. Changing to 'automatic' did not solve the problem.

ensure that the track being served is not a deadlink.
I can play all tracks with the internal player. So i assume that there are no dead links. Right?

could you attach the debug log
Tried that already last time and could not find it in the indicated folder. I will try again on friday, when i will have more time and be able to go through the procedure with patience.

greetings

Hi, if you go to
Options > Media Sharing > Server > [Server] tab
what is the IP address there?
Is there the default choice [Automatic] or a concrete IP address?
If there is 192.*my network".21, then please change it to 'Automatic' or to another IP choice to see whether it works then?

Also, ensure that the track being served is not a deadlink.
Also, could you attach the debug log (item 4b here viewtopic.php?f=30&t=86643 ) -- we can see the exact URI of the track served by MM5 and you could put it into address bar of Chrome/Firefox to see whether the track is playable and for further troubleshooting. In the log search for string "TRemotePlayer.PlayURI: Generated our URI:" or attach the log (upload to DropBox, Box, OneDrive) and share the link here.

Hi stuff,

unfortunately the errors occur the same with the new alpha 2126. Tried it with an installation over my current alpha installation and with an all clean installation (only added my licence).

I may add that the Sonos system receives the folder.jpg. It is shown. Though the music is missing.

greetings
