most defently NOT.
swing is benny goodman's style of music.

fun fun fun and other beachboys songs is SURF MUSIC/ fun music. / rock and roll with a splash.
It depends where you're from and what music you dance Swing to. I'm listening to it right now, and I'd Jive or Triple Swing to it without problem. It's even fast enough for International Jive.

So, YES, you can Swing to it, but it's not ideal.

Does anyone else hear a classic Bo Diddley start to the song?

I'm a swing dancer...

for any dance style, the music that be used often relies on how it's counted... eg, is it 4/4, 3/4...

ie, is it counted in 8 or 6, or 5 even?

I have to admit... my music collection is an absolute mess.. but I'm always 'thinking' about how to organise.

if you are using subgenre's, I would name them all with their parent genre in he title and first...eg:

Swing (west coast)
Swing (east coast)
Swing (Jive)

that way.. in any genre list, listed alphabetically, they say together.

If you want to create other settings for "dance" genre's as opposed to the normal genre's.. I would use a custom field to enter them there... then you could use magic nodes to create a tree for them..
Alternatively, in MM 3.0, you can apply multiple genre's to tracks.. but this would mean that all your music genre's and dance henre's would be mixed in together (unless you added a prefix to all of one category like an underscore).

I know you said that youre bpm's are set already.. but if you need to set more.. I have create a script for doing that with manual tapping (it's in my signature)
The reason I don't just use mixmeister's bpm analyser is that while acurate.. if doesn't detect speed differences well and so slower songs are often marked as double the count (or faster songs 'can' be marked at half the count).

because BPM isn't always indicative of the 'feel' of the music's speed, I would use the tempo setting to indicate that - though I guess you could use "mood" instead...

I feel that given there's already BPM in the file... tempo and mood overlap quite a bit.... so maybe you can use mood for something else? - you dance genre's? - or a kind of rating system for dance?

Dale.
ps... I like this topic.

I'm actually interested in how to use MM to provide useful info for dancers -- things like how to create a tree/node for dance genre (sometimes not the same as musical genre). For example, "Swing" would have "East Coast Dwing", "West Coast Swing", and "Jive" as sub-genre. the music genre might be the same, but it might be "Jazz" or "Rock and Roll". that way I can search on the _dance_ genre when I want to. "Salsa" would have "Colombian Salsa", "Cuban Salsa", Puerto Rican Salsa", maybe even "NY Salsa" as sub-genres.

Another example is Cumbia. That's both a music genre and dance genre. But a lot of Cumbia is good for (ballroom) "Samba" or even (ballroom) Mambo or Salsa. SO the music genre might be "Cumbia' but the dance genre might not be.

Another thing is two rating systems -- one for the music, one for dance suitability.
