You can configure the service to run on any account you want, go to task manager -> Services -> [Services...] -> MediaMonkeyService -> Log on
but for configuring this you will need to enter password of the particular account.

We are going to improve this (to have it configurable in options)

I forgot to mention that I did it with the non-skinned exe of mediamonkey.

@kmenzel: Yes the method with instsrv and srvany works for MediaMonkey. But you have to run the service as administrator (or some other account) instead of the local system account. Just go to the service control panel after installing a service with instsrv/srvany. Change from local system account to administrator, enter your password and restart the service.

Actually, this is not true, as most people run Windows Home Server 2011 "headless", without being logged in. Many server admins will tell you it's a security risk to leave WHS2011 running with the admin logged in, and that's why most people running such a server are interested in apps which can be run as a service (Playon, Serviio with the Serviio for Windows Home Server add-in, iHomeServer, etc). Personally, I will not be able to consider purchasing MediaMonkey Gold until it can run as a service, so here's one more vote for MediaMonkey Wishlist item #0007240.

I will install MM4 on a Windows Server 2008.
On the server, no user is logged on. Therefore, it would be better if we could MM4 start as a service, otherwise you can not use it.

Moved to wishlist. I agree, this could be a nice option.

Although I like the request, you can just leave MediaMonkey running and minimize to tray.

Are there any plans to have the UPnP server eventually running as a service? This could be great as it would mean not having to run downstairs to launch Mediamonkey every time I want to listen to something on my UPnP client upstairs - though it keeps me fit!
