All sync attempts failed, both auto and manual. Card number 3 now corrupted and unusable. Cannot copy to it via sync or manually via usb. I beginning to think it is the phone.

Try this: Go to the drop-down MMA menu / Select Options / In the "Sync Settings" select storage on your device used for sync / Check that "Delete Unselected Content Copies" and "Delete All Unselected Content" are selected.
