Synching to a Laptop folder, from the laptop!

Somewhere in the forums I saw a thread about synching to a folder (not an external device), but I can't find it again. I have installed MM on a laptop. My music is on a NAS drive at home. I want to configure MM to sync a playlist from the NAS to a local folder, so I have music while travelling. Effe...

If your files are already encoded in MP3, use a dedicated MP3 splitter tool. Audacity works, but a dedicated tool avoids decoding/recoding the file.

PS Is there any workaround for the forum bug that collapses consecutive spaces (try a reply to this to see some here ) upon display? This isn't a bug it's a "feature". Normal text renders through HTML, and in HTML consecutive whitespace characters are treated as a single space. Use the CODE tags if...

You can report any purchasing issues by email to support@mediamonkey.com. This is a better way to receive support for purchasing problems. Please include as many details as possible. Good point, and to be fair I referred my question to MM Sales, and they were very helpful. Unfortunately they were n...

Size is an issue when you have lack of harddrive space or use it with a portable player. If MediaMonkey could auto-resize embedded art when synchronizing to a portable player that issue would be solved too. I've been thinking about that! there's an option to automatically remove the art if it's ove...

BTW, I've found there are some freeware tools to do direct cutting+splicing of MP3's. This is less flexible than using Audacity, but avoids the potential quality loss of decoding and re-encoding the music. I'm going to try a couple (mp3DirectCut is first) and i'll let you know what they are like. Re...

Re: Problems with renamed Drive

Our music is on an external hard drive that Vista renamed from K: to L: We are not sure how or why this happened but it seems to be permanent. Now Media Monkey ( V. 2.5.5.something Gold) can not find it's files on K: at startup, gives us a series of "can not find or create this or that director or ...

These guys (Element 5) are also charging incorrect VAT (Value Added Tax) rates for purchasers outside Germany. Clearly they are not very on-the-ball.

Well, VBR saved a little on file size, but not enough to get excited about. By comparison, an hour installing Audacity + LAME and learning the basics of driving them, allowed me to strip ~10MB of encoded silence out of this one track! Now if I could only work out how to get Audacity to re-encode thr...

Best way to handle "padded" tracks

Some tracks have long sections of silent "padding", that waste a ton of disc space when ripped. The most extreme example i've seen so far is the last track on Robbie Williams' "Ive Been Expecting You" album. The last track (These Dreams) actually contains two bonus tracks plus nearly 25 minutes of s...

Thanks for the steer guys. Looks like I was being overly cautious regarding the size of embedded cover art.

Optimum size for album art?

I've started tagging my music collection with album art. In MP3 i'm generally putting the art in the tags, which I assume means I should use a smallish image(?) Meanwhile Ogg Vorbis doesn't support art in the tags, so it seems the only option is a file in the album folder (doesn't sound as if this w...

Interesting. One reason I was (it seems) naively optimistic was that the "tag files from Amazon" option has so far been pretty reliable for me, generally applying album art correctly across multiple tracks. However- 1) The Amazon option is almost always used with a single album (CD). It's possible t...

Tied up in knots- Album Art stylee

MediaMonkey: 2.5.5.998 New user to MM, and mostly very impressed apart from some (mostly minor) bugs. However I got myself massively tied in knots with one largish job of editing album art. I'd like to know if this is a "feature", and if there are clever ways to minimise the pain. Scenario ---------...
