Newbie - mp3 to m4b for Audiobooks

Post by Guest »

Hey, I'm new to this stuff.

I just figured out how to convert my .avi's to .mpeg4's and got them to work on my ipod :)

Now I'd really like to know how I can make my mp3's audiobooks?

I've googled and found that I need to make them .m4b's but I don't know how...?

Please help, thank you xx

Well you need to use an AAC codec to convert from .mp3 to .m4a, then simply rename the file to .m4b - here's a link: http://www.dagondesign.com/articles/tur ... udiobooks/
Download my scripts at my own MediaMonkey fansite.

Thank you :) That tutorial's been very helpful.

I'm still in the process of converting my .mp3 to AAC. Is it normal for this to take a long time?

My file is 272 MB and 26hours long and when I started converting it says 2 days remaining! Omg... ??? is there any other way to do it.

Am I doing it wrong?

Sorry, I've never done this myself so I don't know. But any conversion takes time, and AAC is supposed to be very compressed, so I guess it's feasible. Does sound like a very long time though.

Many programs just guess a remaining time. Often they are way off. I would wait and have patience. If it does take this long the program might have a bug. You could try converting a small mp3 and see if it is slow as well or that it seems to happen only with big files.

I know this is an older thread, but can I use something like this converter to convert audiobooks?

I have mp3 files but I need them in m4b, will this do the work?

Hi,
If you use MMA, MM4/5 and have those MP3s set to be Type AudioBooks (Just add additional genre AudioBook) then MMA will treat them as AudioBooks not as regular MP3sand will bi listed under AudioBooks. So no need to convert.
