Ok...I did what you asked. After cleaning all the tags, they all disappeared from MM, but stayed in itunes!!!

And this happened to ALL the tags, not just the comments.

Even after I saved a new value in comments, they did not come through on itunes.

Not sure i mentioned this, but this is the case with EVERY single track in my entire collection, not just certain ones!! Surely, there must be a way/fix

I also tried the convert id3 tags option in itunes, but that didnt work either.

In ID3V2.3 , comment frame is the following structures .

Code: Select all

 Frame ID 43 4F 4D 4D (COMM)
 Size xx xx xx xx
Flags xx xx (normaly 00 00)
 Text encoding xx (ISO8859-1:00 , Unicode:01)
 Language xx xx xx (e.g. 00 00 00 , 65 6E 67(eng) * )
 short descriptor (ISO8859-1:text + 00 、Unicode:FF FE + text + 00 00)
 The actual text (ISO8859-1:text + 00 、Unicode:FF FE + text + 00 00)
* : Codes for the representation of names of languages . lowercase 3 characters (ISO 639-2)

But , the comment written by MediaMonkey has some difference from others .
1. MM doesn't write a termination (00 (00)) of The actual text .
2. MM doesn't write BOF (FF FE) of short descriptor .
3. MM writes uppercase XXX ( 58 58 58 ) in Language area .

There might be a possibility that other software cannot recognize the comment because of these.
Actually, I have seen softwares that cannot recognize the comment written by MM because of 2.
(I don't know about iTunes , because I have not used it . )
    Win10 64bit , MM4.1 Gold , Japanese Lang files

Good point REIKA I wonder is there difference from 2.3.0 -> 2.4.0, but what happen if after Mm cleanup tags you firstly save tags in iTunes then re-import in MM and then change, what MP3Tag show? Also why iTunes do not update track and detect that Tag is cleared outside iTunes?

Wow - I brought this issue up at least a year ago... and nothing ever happened. But I was just giving a friend some music from my collection, and sadly she still uses Itunes. I really wanted her to see what I had written in the Comment field (not a marriage proposal thank God) and discovered that Itunes still won't read the field - which is when I found this thread. I also noticed that on about 10% of the tracks the Album Art did not show up either??? This is strange since I do all my tagging with MM and do it the same way every time. And it seems to have no bearing on which version of MM I tagged with, whether I tagged the song 2 years ago or yesterday - it's just totally random. Does anyone have any idea why this would happen. And I also took the opportunity to tag some of the songs with missing Album Art in Itunes (which I haven't even opened in over a year) and was able to download some pretty high quality album covers... which shocked me. I didn't know you could do this with Itunes. Hmmmmm......

    I have the solution now!!!

Upgrade to MediMonkey Gold.....it's brilliant...and it solves the problem.

Mind you, it's all academic for me now as I don't even use itunes anymore as After about half a saturday of playing with Media Monkey Gold, I am now able to do EVERYTHING I ever wanted to do with my music :D

    Seriously...forget itunes...MediaMonkey rocks!!

Don't know if anyone else noticed that if you view file properties (for an MP3) in Windows Explorer, you can view the "Comments" that MM adds. When saved from iTunes there is a strange set of numbers and letters (some sort of GUID??)

Not sure if this helps but something I've noticed.

That code is generated by iTunes. I don't know what it's for but I've seen it when acquiring files from folks who use iTunes. I don't use iTunes myself.

    Hi,

Those "strange sets of numbers" are for Normalisation, etc.
