Getting The Most Out Of MediaMonkey

Post by jonp »

I have found the following useful to get the most out of MediaMonkey:

MEDIAMONKEY KEY FEATURES
Auto-Tag from Web
Great for adding Album Art, adding/correcting tag information such as Year etc.

Auto-Organize Files
Great feature to arrange your files into your desired directory structure and file naming convention.

Analyze Volume
Great feature to add the Levelling information to the tag details of songs. This ensures all songs play at a consistent level (assuming your player supported this feature).

Files to Edit
This Nodes is good to help get your tag information complete and accurate.

SCRIPTS
ScrobblerDJ
Great script that uses Last.FM to add a Similar Artist song to your playlist when the playlist gets to the last song.

Artist Top Tracks
Great script that adds the top tracks from the selected artist via Last.FM.

Monkey Rok
Great script that lists details of the song playing including other songs from artist, from album and similar artists.
http://www.mediamonkey.com/forum/viewto ... ase+modify

Case & Leading Zero Fixer
Great script to ensure all your tags and file names are consistent.
http://www.mediamonkey.com/forum/viewto ... casemodify

Tagging Inconsistencies
Good script to identify songs where the tag information is not commonly used in your collection.
http://www.mediamonkey.com/forum/viewto ... ase+modify

Typos
Good script that identifies possible typos in tag information.
http://www.mediamonkey.com/forum/viewto ... light=typo

Magic Nodes
Good script to add additional nodes if required.
http://www.mediamonkey.com/forum/viewto ... ase+modify

Play History & Stats
Good script if you like knowing your most played songs from last week, last month, Top 1000 etc.
http://www.mediamonkey.com/forum/viewto ... ase+modify

Genre Finder
OK script that uses Last.FM to add Genre tag to files.
http://www.mediamonkey.com/forum/viewto ... ase+modify

OTHER
MixMeister BPM Analyser is good to add BPM to the tags of your songs. It is not 100% accurate but can be useful.

The above is only my option. I do not use MediaMonkey to sync files to devices etc so I have not commented on this and many other features that may met other people’s needs.

Nice post. Agree with all of it except for Auto-Tag and getting the year. Would have to say the the weakest part of Auto-Tag from the web is getting an accurate original release year. Usually, you get the latest re-release year from amazon.

Totally agree with D Rock. Amazon is the last place I look for original release dates. It's great (mostly) for album art on popular stuff though. I have a lot of more obscure, independent stuff though so I usually just google for those.

Where is a better place than Amazon to get original release dates?

Plenty of places...
AMG (All Music Guide),
MusicBrainz,
Even Wikipedia is a good source.
These sites can be incorporated into the Monkey using Webnodes and/or
WebSearchPanels.

Thanks drjboulder.

From what I can tell Webnodes and WebSearchPanels are good for looking up artist, album etc information. How can these be used to add the Year to selected tracks eg right hand mouse click etc. Or do I have to manually add the searched/found information to each track?

Yeah they are mostly useful for finding info. Do not have to do a track at a time tho. To add year to whole album, just select all the tracks in the album, select properties, add the year info (making sure that "Apply To All Tracks On Album" is selected).
These type of scripts are mostly useful after your library is pretty much correctly tagged and you just want to make some tweaks.

My library is not yet "pretty much correctly tagged" so I was hoping for a more automated and accurate way to add Year. Back to the old Cut & Paste!! Cheers.
