having a slash "/" in artist name causes trouble

Post by stormi »

Hi,

I have some artists with a slash within their band name. This causes that the artist is shown under separate entries in the artist node (e.g. "f/a/v" is shown as f and a and v)

Any ideas to solve this? Every hint is highly welcome :)

cheers,

What version of MediaMonkey are you using? Did you configure the split character for multiple value fields as / (Tools > Options > Appearance)?

I'm using MM 3.2.4.1304 and the split character is a ";"

The configured split character isn't going to matter if the files are MP3s. The ID3 (v2.3) standards designates "/" as the character to be written to separate multiple artists which MM respects. Thus, even if you set the splitter to (or leave it as the default of) "; ", writing "Artist 1/Artist 2" to an MP3 is going to result in it being read as "Artist 1; Artist 2" at some point. The developers have hard-coded a/some exceptions for this, as I know "AC/DC" is handled correctly.

I believe the ID3 v2.4 standards changed this, changing the internal separator from "/" to a null byte/termination.

Did another application store the Artists with /? In that case it would seem it was done improperly.

I just doublechecked it again and it is now working. The problem was the album artist tagged as f;a;v and due to the fact that ; was the split character the name was splitted.

Thanks for your help and the hint with the split character :)
