Music will not play

I am suddenly having a problem getting to music play. The program loads correctly and when I press play nothing happens.
The progress bar does not move and nothing plays. My speaker works as Window media player will allow music to play. I have shut down and restarted but that hasn't fixed the problem. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I am using Windows 8 Pro

Windows N is sold in Europe, its Windows without extra features like without Windows Media player and ability to play mp3 files.

It seems strange that nobody can play but WMP. You may want to search online for this (as it seems a system issue) to see if others had the same issue with Windows 8.

You could check if audio drivers up to date, attempt format specific solutions suggested in prior link or install a generic code pack like K-Lite, CCCP or Shark.
