Why is MM slower on an SSD?

Post by zuilserip »

A few months ago I used a gift certificate to splurge on a very large and fast SSD (Samsung) to use for my music library. I did a fresh install of MM and placed the program, the library and all of my music on the SSD.

Much to my disappointment, MM appears to run noticeably slower on that drive, however.

Specifically, if I call up properties for a specific song, I can actually see MM "building" the property dialog. It takes maybe only a second or two, but I can actually see the order in which the fields are populated on the form.

As a point of comparison, I have another computer at home (with a traditional HD) where I have a duplicate version of my music library (same songs) and it does not exhibit this behavior (property dialog pops up immediately and fully populated).

I've tried fully-optimizing the database, deleting and rebuilding the DB and - just today - upgraded my version MM hoping that this would help. Unfortunately, nothing has changed this annoying lag. I also benchmarked the SSD and and the benchmark indicates that it is running extremely fast.

Any ideas on what could be causing this issue? I can't imagine why the SSD would be making it run slower...

How large is your drive and how much free space do you have on it.
Research any issues it might have (on tech sites, or Amazon 3 star or lower reviews).

Also, make sure you have the lastest firmware for it and use the "optimization" software that comes with it
and set it to the "most reliable" (as opposed to performance or capacity).
