[SOLVED] Problem with Podcast Downloads

Posted: Sat Aug 31, 2019 3:56 pm
by CountZeroOr
For the past couple weeks or so, I've been having issues with Podcast downloads for multiple feeds, including ones for NPR. Podcasts will download with fields empty for the title of the episode, what podcast it's in, the track artist, and the date of the episode - and I don't think it's an issue with the podcaster improperly tagging podcast episodes.

Any idea what could be causing this?

Hi,
I tested all examples and had no issues downloading them.

Also I have checked for example https://www.npr.org/rss/podcast.php?id=510310 and whenever there is Multiple Authors Podcast file is flagged as NPR as Artist like weekly roundups.

Here is RAW DATA:

I'm not sure what's causing it then - this came up with another podcast today - Galactic Suburbia: http://galactisuburbia.podbean.com/feed/

Would you like me to post my logs?

Sorry to jump on an old thread, but I'm having the same problem with several podcasts. The info is all there on the various websites, and is there before MM starts to download an episode, but then is stripped by the time the episode is downloaded and processed.

How do I fix this without having to manually tag them all again please?

Has anyone got any ideas on this please? I've just had to manually tag a load of podcasts again.

Hi,
Can you give me URLs to Podcasts so that I can check?

Hi Peke :)

Sorry, I didn't get a notification that you'd replied. I've just checked, and since I last posted, my podcasts have been behaving. I deleted one as I wasn't enjoying it, so I'm wondering if that one was problematic, or if I corrected something on my end without realising. The only issue now is from podcasts that are not supplying full info, like album artists (one has no data so defaults to podcast for Artist and Album Artist).

If any issues crop up again I'll post back :)

Hi,
Ok I am marking it as SOLVED for now, feel free to add any more info if needed and we should handle them.

Hi Peke :)

I've had two podcasts update that haven't updated all the information. There's nothing particularly important that's missing, but I thought it might help get to the bottom of whatever's causing it.

Both podcasts fill in the Artist field from the respective RSS feeds, but neither of them fill in the Album Artist. They both have the Author field completed in the RSS field. They both also have the image field completed in the RSS field, with working images, but are not downloading or tagging the images on my end, so no image shows up on my phone once they've been synced.

Both podcasts are NSFW due to bad language and sexual references

The podcasts are 'Sh*gged, Married, Annoyed' by Chris and Rosie Ramsey with the RSS feed here: https://rss.acast.com/sma which is automatically linked from here: https://feeds.soundcloud.com/users/soun ... sounds.rss. The image is here: https://thumborcdn.acast.com/XD0TmGOrvG ... iginal.jpg

and 'Off Menu with Ed Gamble and James Acaster' by Plosive Productions with the RSS feed here: https://rss.acast.com/offmenu. The image is here: https://thumborcdn.acast.com/EaOYEeZvb4 ... al-web.jpg

Like I say, it's nothing particularly important, but it would be helpful.

I'm not 100% sure if it's affecting my phone much, as I just found out that last time I cleaned them up on my computer, I didn't clean them up on my phone too, so I've had some doubles, and some that should have been deleted. I've deleted all podcasts from my phone, and I'm syncing them now. It may take a while though, as my home network can be a bit slow.

Thanks again for your help :)

Hi,
Hmmm, thank you for links. I checked them briefly and subscribed. Interesting thing is that in both Podcasts all podcast filenames are "media.mp3" which can make conflicts, but I wonder why. if you have few more please add them so that we can compare.

I hadn't noticed that. I'll just manually update that one as it comes in then.

Another one that is a bit flaky sometimes is 'The Tales From Wales Podcast'. The last four episodes have 'Podcasts' as the Artist and Album Artist, but unless I'm misunderstanding, the author tag in the RSS is Drew Taylor. I may have corrected the older episodes on my end, but I can't remember. The RSS feed is here: https://anchor.fm/s/cc08148/podcast/rss. It's got an image link in the RSS, but there's no thumbnail on my end. The image link is https://d3t3ozftmdmh3i.cloudfront.net/p ... 9718ee.jpg

A more unusual one is the Cbeebies Radio Podcast. Most episodes download correctly, and there's a thumbnail, but two recent episodes downloaded with no Album Artist info, and only had the year for the date, even though the filename and RSS contain the correct date. The RSS feed is here: https://podcasts.files.bbci.co.uk/p02pnn9d.rss but it's a bit of a mess, so I've separated out the two affected episodes and tidied up their code here:

Code: Select all

Hi,
For me they import correctly, but I use MM5 for podcasts not MM4. Try to install MM5 portable (no need to import MM4 settings) and just test it with podcasts?
