Convert Asx to...

Post by Biggus_Dickus » Fri Mar 27, 2020 3:30 pm

Hi,
I use the Track direction script, to make song duplicates to asx files and leave a master track. Playing of them is fine, but when I try to convert to MP3, OGG or whatever or try to sync to my phone, I'll get error message, that MediaMonkey don't like it. Is there any way to convert??

Hi,
Like I said ASX is not File it is playlist you can't convert/sync Playlist.

You must set "..\Casual (Felon Remix) (Single)\01 Casual (Felon Remix).flac" for a sync not ASX.

I do not see the issue, just wonder why are you using ASX playlists out of other more common formats? Except maybe for Online playback.

My intention was using the Redirection script by ZvezdanD to eliminate duplicates. For example I got a song as single and same song within album, I leave masterfile with better bitrate, quality, whatever and delete the others to save space. The Redirection script allows that and creates asx files for killed dups with redirection to masterfile.

Hi,
Using third party apps/plugins is always a risk that there is a bug. Maintenance of such plugins are sorely on plugin developer, we can try to help on developer request. From what I see ASX uses relative paths, so moving it outside saved folder will make files non accessible/playable in MM, which means that MM ca't pair them. Also ASX do not save ID to track in library which additionally can produce problems as wrong ID can be paired to track from ASX playlist.

Lets see if original problem can be solved eg. your problem with duplicates. Can you share what exact problem is?

Hi Pavle,
I know that plugin is not official part of Monkey and post wasn't a bug report, just question if I do something wrong. Used Musicbee for a while and it converted ASX to any format by taken the masterfile, which contains audio. My "problem" is, I've a lot of songs more than once on HDD/collection, because of different albums (e.g. compilations, best of's...). This songs are also part of different playlists. E.g. "Alphaville - Big in Japan" from full album is part of playlist "Best of 80s" and same song from compilation Best of Alphaville is part of playlist "favourite songs" or whatever. So I got 2 exactly identically songs, but parts of different albums and playlists. I want just keep one audio file as master for saving space and the other audio file should be replaced by a reference file (e.g. ASX) , which is linked with master. So I have one audio file, but both album structures and tags. Hope u can follow me so far.

Hi,
As ASX is handled as playlist which is https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Advanced_ ... Redirector and can contain multiple elements https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/window ... dfrom=MSDN

Thing you seek is actually https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Symbolic_link widely used in linux but never fully adopted in Windows (Except maybe ins some cases where you delete one Folder that is actually SymLink to very important folder. It happened to me few times).

Here is actual examples on how to solve and what are they:
https://schinagl.priv.at/nt/hardlinkshe ... nsion.html
https://superuser.com/questions/1020821 ... windows-10
https://www.maketecheasier.com/create-s ... windows10/
https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/sysint ... s/junction

FYI by your approach using ASX you would end in duplicate file on device as each Library file will be handled as different file. Also if you convert Source file From FLAC to ALAC then ASX will fail. I often use ASX in streaming as it is designed for a Failover due teh ability to have multiple entries pointing to same content, but not in local environment.

Thanks for help, Pavle.
But I let duplicates co-exist now.
