Synch modifications of playlist to ipod

Is there a way to Synch modifications of playlist, (eg. the new addition of a new song to the playlist) to an ipod without recopying the entire playlist each time? Eg. to add a song to a 50 song playlist, I'd like to just copy over the new song and have it appear in the playlist and not copy over 51 songs.

Set up your device options and check the playlists you want to keep in sync with your player. Use auto-sync instead of "sync selected".
