How to test status of Tracks to be Tagged?

Is there a way to check how many tracks are still in the Tracks to be Tagged que.
Looking for a way to automatically throttle a script that would add a tag to almost every track in a library the first time it is run.
Alternative is to set configuration parameters for batch size and pause/resume timeout after processing a batch.
Don't want MM to get into an appears to be frozen state/windows not responding state.
