I've never done that encoding so I can't comment. I'll note it for the future though.Michael-Keizer wrote:After a experimenting a bit more, it seems that the issue really is MM's AAC encoding. If I use MP3, things work just fine. A bit of a pain, but workable.
Thanks for the input!

Re: MediaMonkey iTunes plugin (d_itunes4.dll)
Yes, the 3 way sync works for ratings and playcounts. The only caveat is when the rating is changed in MM and iTunes. In this case the MM version will win, irrespective of the order of the changes. The manual indicates it's a two-way sync for ratings and play counts and the ratings definitely go from iTunes to MM if you make the change in iTunes - i tested this yesterday when testing the plugin out for myself. I haven't tried from the iPhone though to see if that flows right through?

Re: MediaMonkey iTunes plugin (d_itunes4.dll)
This works for me. The only time that it does not is when the new or old playlist name is a duplicate of another playlist name. Under those circumstances the determination of which playlist gets deleted is random. When I change the NAME of a playlist, d_itunse4.dll renames the list in the auto-sync-list but then instead of simply rename the list in iTunes, the sync produces a new playlist - so one ends up in iTunes with two playlists of the same content, the OLD and NEW name...is that an intended behaviour or did I simply missed a checkbox?

I just renamend in MM the playlist name from "στο Βερολίνο NYM" to "στο Βερολίνο NYM Δεκέμβριος 2011" and synced to itunes and I get there now both lists.....hm

Mark, which settings you chose on Playlist reuse/delname/random/no create?

@guapo: Double checked it works for me.
Please check that you have the "Delete files and playlists not included in the Auto-Sync list from the device" option switched on in Options/Auto sync.
I've added this to the FAQ list.

This was actually unchecked. I thought it would be a simple checkbox...I synced again and works fine!markstuartwalker wrote: "Delete files and playlists not included in the Auto-Sync list from the device" option switched on

Re: MediaMonkey iTunes plugin (d_itunes4.dll)
Just wanted to chime in with one more "Thank You" to Mark. I was very leery of trying this as I've fouled up my mp3 database before and I'm not particularly savvy when it comes to making things play nice with each other. So I hesitated and owned MM4 since late November but didn't install it because of the problem with native syncing to the ipod and ipad. Also couldn't update those devices or itunes either.
So last night I just got tired of waiting, and decided I'd try it out with the ipad (don't really use it for music much, but always kept my files on it in case. Thought I'd keep the ipod "as is" if I had problems with the ipad.
Simply, the process was dead simple, worked like a charm the first time through and everything is perfect as far as I'm concerned.
Thanks for a great solution!
John

How does the iTunes plugin work & what changes does it make?
Hi all
I've just installed Media Monkey on my PC that has iTunes. I regularly back up all my music files, and when I run the backup scan after installing Media Monkey and installing the iTunes addon it seems that all of my music files have been amended in some way, presumably by Media Monkey?
What changes to the mp3 files does Media Monkey make? Does it just update the ID tags or something, or add data for indexing?
Also, how does the ratings and playcount sync between MM and iTunes work? Do they both need to be running for the sync to work, or does the addon update the respective libraries when it detects a change in either application's database files?

Re: MediaMonkey iTunes plugin (d_itunes4.dll)
F1nchy:
The default settings in MM will update the files' ID3Tag information if you update those attributes within MM. This is surprisingly easy to do to many files e.g. You might rename a genre from "Rock" to "Heavy Rock" and all the files with that genre would be updated. iTunes does similar things. Ratings and playcounts are not stored as ID3 information and so don't cause timestamps to be updated.
Yes, you need both MM and iTunes running to sync between them.

Thanks for this note. At times I think that nothing is working but that is because only complaints reach me and I hear nothing of the successes.vb1953 wrote:Simply, the process was dead simple, worked like charm the first time through and everything is perfect as far as I'm concerned.

Re: MediaMonkey iTunes plugin (d_itunes4.dll)
Well, this is working like a charm. Good work deserves praise.
One question, do I leave the "Manage music and videos manually" check box in itunes unchecked now?

Re: MediaMonkey iTunes plugin (d_itunes4.dll)
Mark, I have a new question that I hope you can help with.
I am tranferring to a new computer. When I first transferred the MM.DB file to the new PC, and isntalled d_itunes on the new PC, I saw it listed twice in my device list. So on the original PC, I first removed the d_itunes extension, copied the MM.DB to the new PC, and launched MM. I updated all music paths, and confirmed that d_itunes was not listed as a device. I then installed the extension, and darn! It still shows twice.
Do you know how to clear this up?? It seems like it sees the extension and loads the original definition, and a new one. Here's a screenshot.
Thanks
UPDATE: Answered my own question. It was in the manual! Remove all entries of the plugin from the DB. Worked like charm!

Re: MediaMonkey iTunes plugin (d_itunes4.dll)
It's good to see this interim solution (plug-in plus ITunes) as a workaround to syncing IOS5 devices with MM4.
However, most of my music is in FLAC, and FLAC is not supported by iTunes..so I assume this workaround does not work for FLAC files....correct?
