Monkey Squeeze and music library

Post by oeyoeve »

Dear Gingernut63,
Thank you for taking the time to answer.
I guess I could have included some more info about my set-up. But anyway, your answer (and the user guide) indicates that what I want is not possible as long as my LMS is on a NAS - which it is. I guess I can some how understand that, as Monkeysqueeze probably does not by itself have the capability to stream files directly to a slimdevice, but what it does (I guess) is simply to parse along a file pointer to LMS with a request to have it played by LMS.
It was foolish of me to hope that it had the capability to serve as master for squeezeboxes directly - without the help of LMS. I guess that in itself would have been just like writing a new LMS.... ? Am I right?

Yep, bang on the money. Think of MM telling LMS via MS what track to play. For it to succeed they both need access to the same address book to pin point the location of the track and make the process successful. Cross referencing really or if you like, they must read and speak the same language before they can transfer information, MonkeySqueeze helps with the translation.

LMS Password?

Post by oeyoeve »

I have now configured MonkeySqueeze and I no longer get any error messages when activating, and it reports proper playlist synchronization during startup.
However, playback still only happens through my PC speakers and not at any of my Slimdevices.

So first of all; How do I select whether to play back on my regular PC speaker or through LMS?
Secondly, how do I change which Squeezebox to use as playback device at any given point in time?
How will MonkeySqueeze handle username & Password that I have set up on my LMS (which I need because it is also accessed over the internet)?

When I click the MonkeySqueeze button, it turn green, byt playback still only comes through my PC speakers....

Do you mean play via MediaMonkey or through LMS on the same PC? When using the PC to play music you can use MediaMonkey or to avoid lag/delay issues with squeezebox devices, mute MediaMonkey and play music via Squeezeplay installed on the PC.

Change the MAC address on the MM/MS options page to the player of choice and synchronise with other Squeezebox players

MonkeySqueeze will not work with LMS user name and password.

You have an addressing issue on the options page. Read the User guide especially the troubleshooting section and read kalowski's posts just before your post in this thread.

Thanks Gingernut63 for your reply.

Is there any chance you can add support for username/password to MonkeySqueeze?
(my understanding is that this is the reason I cannot get it to work)

Not at this stage, it is beyond my abilities, happy for someone else to have a go though.

It shouldn't be too difficult - all you have to do is to extend the URL by adding ; http://<username>:<password>@<IP-address>:<port#> during first logon.

Latest Beta release V3.0.1.150513

Well Viking you can take a breath, I've programmed the ability to log into a secure LMS/Squeezebox system. Click on the following link to the development page, following the instructions to download the script and give it a run. Please post script feedback on the development thread.

until recently [latest Windows 8.1 update, about 3 weeks ago] I was able to play from MM to my SqueezeBox using the following network path in the MM file tree:
My Computer
Network
Microsoft Windows Network
Workgroup
JR_pc
\\GH\music\audio

even tho I have drive M:\ mapped to this network path, MM will read the M drive but will not send the playlist to the SqzBox server - and the network path [Workgroup\JR_pc\\GH\music\audio] NO LONGER appears in the file structure of MM. MM will play files from this drive to the PC speakers, but not to the SqzBox

Is there a setting in MM or MSqueeze that I need in order to see and play music from the network path above?

Hello JR

A little confused with your post. Sounds like one of the music folder addresses in MonkeySqueeze is now incorrect. My initial thought is to clear the database in MediaMonkey and rescan the library using the network address. Then place that address in the MediaMonkey Music Folder box in MonkeySqueeze. If you have one Workgroup setup on your network then "\\GH\music\audio" should do. Check the LMS Media Folder address in LMS and compare with the one in MonkeySqueeze.

I would also confirm all other settings are correct; make sure the LMS IP address hasn't changed and the Squeezebox player MAC address is ok (use lower case).

Let me know how you get on

Hi Gingernut,

I downloaded the most recent update for Monkeyscript. My results are as follows;

If I disable username:password completely in LMS, and disable Logon in MonkeySqueeze, everything works just fine.
If I enable both, Monkeysqueeze just plays through my local PC speakers as if it is ignoring LMS.
So, I guess - we still have an issue with the logon part of your script.

I talked to some other people who have more knowledge about the LMS than I do, and their advice was to invoke the login command via the CLI, immediately after establishing a connection with LMS, using something like this:
http://192.168.1.69:9001/html/docs/cli- ... yer=#login

Does this make any sense to you?
