Yes, it actually works, as you could read from many posts of other users in this thread. If you don't have anything in the old/drive path combo boxes, that means that your database is empty. You should have database that contains files if you want to update their location (as the name of the add-on suggests).

Just successfully used this on a 1.5TB database with over 210,000 songs, worked flawlessly and considering the size of my DB, very fast too! :wink:

I love the option of checking if files exists on the destination!

Total time to update the 210k songs to new server UNC path from Old Network Mapped drive = 192secs :D (not including the "checking if exist" time of about the same)

Thanks a bunch ZvezdanD! Real life saver!

This script really works great, thank you!

One big improvement would be, if we could select multiple Drive-Letters in one run.
It would be OK to enter manually the old path drive letters, separated by a comma.
"Old Path": V:\, W;\, X:\, Y:\, Z:\
"New Path": Select the new drive as it actually works.

In the current version (v1.4 not 1.3 as in the thread title), I have to repeat this step 5 times for the above 5 old drive letters..

That.Was.Awesome.

I just converted to a new fileserver box, and I've set up all the network shares with different names. I just installed the script, clicked a few buttons, and 5 minutes later my database is now properly aligned! Just made a small donation, thank you for creating this.

Got my library updated by this extension alright, but F-secure detected a worm in it <a href="http://imgur.com/xhRbF3j"><img ... om" /></a>, thus mixed feelings. Is there something that can prove this false positive or has the file been contaminated somehow? I downloaded the file many times on two separate computers and result was the same, infected .vbs file.

F-Secure is problematic reporting false alarms. Its author promised me that will update its database, but obviously didn't. If you are interested about it, please read the following thread:

Hi,
Generally, all scripts especially Zvezdan are safe and always even you just suspect just go and file FALSE REPORT and they will reply you with results.

Personally in last few years preventing of Infection in all AV apps is silly as it is very very easy to mutate computer virus to not be detected.

Only safe way to keep things safe if Hardware Firewall on LAN Edge and Good Settings of System firewall.

Thanks Peke.

By the way, on the virustotal site you could see that this add-on file is safe tested by 54 popular anti-virus engines; the only one reporting a worm in it is F-Secure:

Thank you for your replies Zvezdan and Peke. I took time to diagnose the script further with Kaspersky's free scan and Virus Total online metascan and got convinced, it was just a false positive by F-secure - think I might be seeking to change my virus protection provider next time when the license expires.

I've been changing my harddisks rather frequently over the years and this extension gives the much sought for continuity to the library. Mediamonkey is by far the best music and media library for any home computer system and it just raised itself a notch higher for me using this script. Keep up the good work guys!

(Hope Mediamonkey might go 64-bit and Linux desktops too, since MS seems to be waving goodbye to it's more demanding desktop users with couple of recent OS developments - less worries about false virus detections at least.)

There is a new donation-only version, v2.0:
* Added: ability to update multiple locations at once, separating multiple paths in the input field using " or | (similar to Export/Import Playlists add-on);
* Added: option to move files from the old to the new location first (beside of the existing copy option);
* Added: option "Overwrite files with the same names at new location" (used with Copy/Move options);
* Added: option "Delete emptied folders" (used with the Move option);
* Added: option "Remove duplicates of updated files from database and merge their playing data" [MM3+].

First let me say that I don't have a clue to what I'm doing.

Now I've tried to follow your instructions and some from the replies already posted but the tracks are greyed and will not play. It looks like the path listed is way off but I don't know what to do with it.

I am running Windows 10 and the latest MM Gold. I am trying to move the MM DB to my new computer. I've been asking for help from MM Help but now they've referred me to you.

I moved the DB over on a flash drive.

For "Old Drive" your script lists two choices:
1. HD:Windows (C:), ID=140354CD
2. FD: (D:), ID=C8F42413

Here is a path listed in MM altho it doesn't seem to exist:

C:\Users\Wally\AppData\Roaming\MediaMonkey\Users\Wally\AppData\Roaming\MediaMonkey\Wally\AppData\Roaming\MediaMonkey\Users\Wally\AppData\Roaming\MediaMonkey\Users\Owner\Music\Playlists\F05\10cc.m4a

Now, I'm to the point that I'm just clicking around because I have no idea what to do because nothing is working.

Thanks for any help you can provide.

That path is obviously wrong since you have "Users\Wally\AppData\Roaming\MediaMonkey" folders repeated several times. I don't know how you got that path, but it seems that your database file is seriously messed up.

If you have "C:\Users\Wally\AppData\Roaming\MediaMonkey\Users\Wally\AppData\Roaming\MediaMonkey\Wally\AppData\Roaming\MediaMonkey\Users\Wally\AppData\Roaming\MediaMonkey\" in the Old path combo box, maybe you could try to replace that path with the New path: "C:\".

If you still have a problem, please upload copy of your original database (before you applied this add-on) packed with Zip to some file server like Dropbox and send me a link to it using my e-mail, so I could try it by myself.

Thank you for your suggestion.

I tried replacing the old path with C:\ but it wouldn't work.

I then put the new path where the actual database is in the script:

C:\Users\Wally\AppData\Roaming\MediaMonkey\

but still not playing.

I looked at the size of the DB and it was 15.5 mb. The original file was 9.7 mb, so I copied over the database again and tried the script. Still wouldn't play.

A sample of an entry of the new DB is now: C:\Users\Wally\AppData\Roaming\MediaMonkey\Owner\Music\Playlists\F04\10cc.m4a

This seems to be a lot more reasonable, but it still won't play.

Sorry for all the trouble, because somehow I know this is all my fault.

I am not sure that you understood my suggestion. The Old path should have been:
C:\Users\Wally\AppData\Roaming\MediaMonkey\Users\Wally\AppData\Roaming\MediaMonkey\Wally\AppData\Roaming\MediaMonkey\Users\Wally\AppData\Roaming\MediaMonkey\

and the New path should have been:
C:\

It won't play if the paths in databases are wrong, i.e. they don't match the real media files.

1. Please post a screenshot of the Update Location dialog box with your settings or at least specify what you entered into the Old path and the New path combo boxes.

2. Please specify the full path of one media file from the Library that won't play and specify the full path of the same file from the Windows Explorer.
