This is great idea and very good script, thx for all the work you put into it.

I was wondering is it possible that I select a track in MM which doesn't contain a album info, so I type album name in WST manually.
Then tagger finds a album containing my track. I would like to import to tag following things : release year, genre, style, mood, review, cover.

I didn't able to to any of this thing even when I have album name in mp3 tag.
The only thing I was able to save in tag is cover.

Sorry for a bad english, I'm beginer and this is my frist post.

p.s. I'm using AMG search

What's your native language?

Anyway, make sure that the checkboxes for Release Year, Genre and Cover (album art) are checked.
Then go in the options (button Options > More options...) and edit the tagging masks. E.g. put %review% in the Comment field, put %style% in the Custom1 field and put %mood% in the Mood field and make sure that these fields have their checkbox checked.

Because your track tags doesn't contain any info, WST won't be able to automatically match your track with a track of the found album (from AMG). That means that you have to do it manually: in the tracks preview grid (at the bottom), change the ? in the # column to the track number of the found album's track you want to match it with.
Make sure that the track's checkbox is checked, and then use "Write/save tags".

Hey steegy...I'm VERY impressed with the way the script works now, its awsome and now it is actually very very useful cause it has gotten a lot smarter!!

I have one question though: why does it takes son long to begin searching afeter pressing "search"? the "search status bar" only shows up after a while...I may be wrong, cause maybe it starsts searching right away bit only displays the blue bar "searching" bar after a while, giving the impression it hasn't started searching till that moment?

cheers, and keep up the good work!!!!

The program starts connecting to the internet right away, but the connection sometimes takes a bit to start (I don't know why, probably because of the standard .Net WebClient component used).

My native language is serbian, but I'm trying, and I see you understand me.

Anyway, thanks for a reply, but I still have a problem. I don't have tracks preview grid (at the bottom). Reinstall script, same thing.
I use the latest availabe version, downloaded from link above (WebSourcesTagger30-11-06.exe).

Serbian... hmmmm... no, I don't know that language unfortunately. Let's talk in English :)

Hopefully this little update //REMOVED : Newer version available// fixes the problem with the hidden tracks preview list. Some minor problems persist (like sometimes with "Maximized" mode) but that shouldn't bother too much.

If it doesn't work, then it doesn't work. Thanks for letting me know.

The problem is probably because "wrong" gui settings have been saved to the registry by the previous version, and the new version uses these.
Easiest way to solve: make sure that WST is not running, and remove WST's settings by deleting the registry key "HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\SteegyCorp\WebSourcesTagger" (using regedit).

New version works, it show the list. I clean the registry before installing it, with previous version that didn't help. So whatever you did Steegy, you did it right :D .
I get 2 error messages when I press the search, but that don't affect the reasult. I just click OK. Here's the images :

Anyway, great job Steegy, keep it coming, this tool brings joy to every music-lover.

Oops, I just noticed this myself (to test something for another forum post: you see how much I use WST.....)
These are "debug" message boxes that verify that WST encodes the requests correctly (someone wrongly said they didn't).

Here's the same version without the message boxes: http://home.scarlet.be/ruben.castelein/ ... -12-20.exe

If you already used WebSourcesTagger before this version and you have the same problem as said above (tracks preview list is "hidden"), be sure to check this:

Thank you, thank you, thank you!

The new version works great. I had been having problems with the tracklist view not displaying at all, so it made the script "break" if the song titles didn't match exactly correctly.

I had the same problem after installing the newest version. But after uninstalling, removing the registry entries and reinstalling, everything works correctly.

Thanks again, great job.

I uninstalled everything and reinstalled the tagger from your latest version, and it works! I'm so glad I can use it properly now :)

Thanks a million, Steegy! I'm sure this will save me hours of tagging time :P

I read this thread with great excitement. Finally a batch process that can fix the ID3 data in my mp3 library.

All my filenames are correct in the format "artist - song title.mp3" so I figured it would be easy.

Even this script though hasn't made it easy. As a test I selected a random bunch of 38 files and threw them into a folder, because I'm scared to ruin my original files. I was lucky I did this when I tried media monkey itself for the first time. It decided that all 38 songs (from 38 different artists) were all the same album (randomly selected from one of the mp3s).

With this script it's not so destructive, it doesn't decide they're all from the same album. I can't get it to do anything. I'm confused. Firstly, this is a standalone program that needs .NET support to run. So it's not like it's a plugin for media monkey. That was my first surprise. With it being so independent, I don't see why it even needs Media Monkey at all. Secondly, the operation of it is really unusual. I still haven't figured out how to make it go ahead and do a search. I highlight a file in the list at thte bottom, or check it's checkbox and then click search at the top but nothing happens. I highlight them all and click search and nothing happens.

I really don't understand how I'm the only one that has ALL my mp3 files in one folder. I can't see why anyone would want to sort them by having them in one folder per album. When I originally ripped all my CD's back in 1999 when ripping software had no DB it could look up, and only ID3v1 existed, I would examine all the songs it ripped and decide which ones I liked enough to keep and which just weren't good enough and should be deleted. This meant that sometimes I had only 1 song from an album and sometimes 80% of the songs from it. I wasn't interested in just getting the biggest collection I could so I could say "I've got more mp3s than you". I wanted a collection of ONLY songs that I absolutely love to hear at any time. Hence my collection is only about 2,000 instead of the 10-15,000 it would have been. Keeping them all in one folder and selecting random/shuffle (on itunes, on my mp3 player, in the car etc) is always perfect - I never encounter a weak song.

So all I want to do is point whatever program/script I have at my one single mp3 folder and say "go ahead, auto tag them". A one click operation that starts a long process. OK that process might prompt me for every single file, or for the ones it's confused by, but that's OK.
