MiniLyrics Error Code 17

Post by fc622000 »

I use MiniLyrics embedded in Media Monkey since long time.
Just recently I'm facing a problem with an error pop-up that says: "Error code 17; Internet connection maybe down, no such host is known"
My internet connection works perfectly and Media Monkey is listed in the firewall allowed programs.
I wrote sevaral time to the software developer Crintsoft, but I haven't received any answer yet.
Are they still alive?
Any suggestion to solve the problem?
Any suggestion for an alternative software to display scrolling lyrics or similar?
Thanks

I started getting this message a week ago too, I guess the developers have a problem with their servers. It's not a problem with MediaMonkey or its embedding addon.
I just contacted the company, but I guess I can't rely on their support whatsoever.

I am using it with Winamp and same situation here.
On your question, NO there is no alternative! No there is no another lyric software that will give you karaoke lyrics. I have Lyrics Plugin for winamp (that is called) but it shows only lyrics as text, same as I can find it all over in the Internet. Only plain text nothing more. There is no another software that gives you .lrc lyrics, synced by time and stream for karaoke.
I have created many .lrc files and uploaded into MiniLyrics data base, to share with other people. It was many English songs notorious songs I created for me and uploaded it and hope have not went in the drain. If they gone no place to find .lrc files, no one have such data base which we created, but life goes on, learned to live without them and forget about them, I will not die if I dont have .lrc files for my songs, will enjoy on my music with plain text lyrics. No one bother about them and probably no one miss them. If I need some more .lrc will made it for myself from plain text with easy put timings. Yes, without Minilyrics will not able to share with other people but I dont care.

Put these 2 lines into C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc\hosts (you need admin privileges)

74.208.224.110 minilyrics.com
74.208.224.110 www.minilyrics.com

You may need to right click and rename your file to just 'hosts' if it has the '.old' on the end. Then you can edit it in notepad.

awesome. It did work!
Today just created and uploaded a new lyric Al Bano & Romina Power "ma il cuore no". That song had no lyrics at all. So I made it and uploaded it as many other lyrics I created during past 7-8 years

Even did it to work on my Android phone and the android app worked too :D Here is my tips for Android:
Put these lines into \system\etc\hosts:
74.208.224.110 minilyrics.com
74.208.224.110 http://www.minilyrics.com

on the end of file \etc\hosts put empty line! Do not forget the empty line on the end of file
Do not edit etc\hosts under Windows because will screw the carriage return (new line symbol) with CR LF, ^M, 0x0D 0x0A. So edit on the Android on the phone!
Put permissions on etc\hosts 644 or -rw-r--r-- root root
If all OK try to do ping minilyrics.com in console, or in a browser open the address minilyrics.com

I team,
I am facing the same error with my Mac Book Pro + MiniLyrics embedded within iTunes since also a long time...

When listening to a music file, I got error pop-up that says: "Error code 17; Internet connection maybe down, no such host is known".
My internet connection works indeed perfectly and I do not think there is any issue with my firewall settings.

How can I solve that problem on a Mac Book Pro / iTunes ?
I followed the online help for modifying the file using the Go --> Go to Folder command and address to : /private/etc/hosts.
I copied the original host file within another folder, modify that copied file, save back that file on top of its original location (/private/etc/hosts).

##
# Host Database
#
# localhost is used to configure the loopback interface
# when the system is booting. Do not change this entry.
##
127.0.0.1 localhost
255.255.255.255 broadcasthost

74.208.224.110 minilyrics.com
74.208.224.110 http://www.minilyrics.com

::1 localhost
# 17.151.36.30 gs.apple.com

I also made to flush my DNS cache. Open Terminal and using the following command : http://www.tekrevue.com/tip/edit-hosts-file-mac-os-x/

It seems OK as now, I do not have anymore the "Error code 17" message when playing a song.

Indeed, there is no lyrics for any song I listen through iTunes.

Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks in advance.
Kind regards.

I copied and pasted

74.208.224.110 minilyrics.com
74.208.224.110 http://www.minilyrics.com

and it worked! Thank you!!!! :''''''D

And to get the permission just read it here: https://www.petri.com/edit-hosts-file-windows-8, and I used the method #1

Thank you very much for this fix. Seems a bit silly that their own website couldn't advise this..

Hi team,
Even if the fix is good, on my Mac Book Pro with iTunes, most of the songs are no more recognized.
Is anyone else facing same issue ?
