When I swipe for lyrics (Android, Galaxy S5), I get only "Lyrics are not available. Search for missing lyrics?"

All the songs on my SDCard it is reading have imbedded lyrics. I just purchased the App, thinking maybe it was a paid feature, but it does the same.

Did MMW sync the files to the device while MMA was installed?

It may have; I am not sure.

I presume MMW = MediaMonkey Windows & MMA = MediaMonkey Android

What I do know is using MMW I can still see lyrics, and originally I copied the exact same music files to my SDCard.

Yes, I'm not sure if even MMW > MMA sync does Lyrics, but it's very unlikely it works without doing it that way.

Why cannot it just read the lyrics from the tags?

MMA can't read tags (MMA 2.0 will), thus it relies on Android Media Scanner which doesn't pick up all tags.

So when is this so called MMA 2.0 supposed to come out? Or a beta? I have found nothing about it other than in this forum here and there.

Still very early to tell when, but I can share that it is actively developed for some time now.

I am also looking forward to being able to display lyrics.

From what I'm reading, that will be MMA 2.0 (MMW is fine with lyrics)

Any update on MMA 2.0 release date?

Swipe left on the Artwork in the Now Playing screen to show the Lyrics.

I swipe left and no lyrics, only Search or Edit. If I do search, it tells me to upgrade.
