Shared MM.DB Database - Multiple Clients [#15718]

Post by martinix »

Hi,

In MM4 multiple clients can access a shared MM.DB which is held on a network drive. By setting the location of the shared MM.DB in the MediaMonkey.ini file located in c:\users\<user>\AppData\Roaming\MediaMonkey, MediaMonkey will look in the shared location to access the database. This feature no longer works in the current pre-release Beta of MM5. The suggested solution is to create a portable install of MM5 on the network drive and run the MediaMonkey.exe direct from this location.

I tried making a portable install of MM5 in a shared location but can't get it to run properly. The application opens correctly, displaying the contents of the library, but when you choose an item to play, the player doesn't run.

Is it possible to retain the shared MM.DB feature using the setting in MediaMonkey.ini from MM4 in MM5? Is it the intention that the MM5 server under development should replace the use of a shared MM.DB by multiple clients?

The ability to share library content and playlists across multiple clients is a useful feature. It would be nice if some way could be found to retain this functionality in MM5.
