I've updated from MM4 to 5, and liking it so far.
However, there are a number of autoplaylists (all imported) I have that are sorted by Random. Despite this, they do not randomize the list of songs. MM4 seemed to do this on the fly when you'd click away and then back to the playlist.
Am I doing something wrong?
EDIT: Here's a sample playlist screenshot:

Autoplaylists not sorting by random [#14553]

Re: Autoplaylists not sorting by random
I think that if you enable the '[x] Limit to: X files Selected by: [Random track (auto-refresh)]' row then it will work for you?
In MM5 only the "auto-refresh" variants are doing the permanent random behaviour like in MM4

Re: Autoplaylists not sorting by random
Thanks Ludek, you're right, and that does appear to fix the issue. It's too bad that there's not a Sort by Random (auto-refresh) option though. I don't usually like to put a limit on my music playlists (only video).

Re: Autoplaylists not sorting by random
Hi,
this change was intentional, details in https://www.ventismedia.com/mantis/view.php?id=14553
Feel free to set the limit to something 9999999 if you prefer the 'auto-refresh' variant for all your auto-playlists

Re: Autoplaylists not sorting by random [#14553]
I'm trying to get the playlist result I used to get in MM4. I think I understand the change, but would appreciate a pointer do some documentation.
I have a large collection of mostly classical music. I use an auto playlist to randomly select full albums from the larger collection. I want the order of the selection to be a random sequence of albums, meaning that they change in every selection.
What seems to work is to construct the list with a
check on limit (to 99999 files), selected by Random Album(auto-refresh)
then Sort By: Random Album, and Track #
I seem to be getting what I expect, but I'm not sure about exactly how this is expected to work.
I have read the wiki pages:
https://www.ventismedia.com/mantis/view.php?id=14553
https://www.ventismedia.com/mantis/view.php?id=15777
and sort of get it. Is there any actual user level documentation that explains how this is supposed to work??
I guess I think "persistent" and "random" don't quite go....
thx,
.

Re: Autoplaylists not sorting by random [#14553]
Yes (auto-refresh) will show a refreshed list each time (instead of caching it), you've understood it correctly. It's slower, but executes the AutoPlaylist rules each time you view the AutoPlaylist.

Re: Autoplaylists not sorting by random [#14553]
Hi,
MM 5.0.1.2433
Win10 machine
I have an auto playlist with the following criteria:
Search: Entire Library
Match ALL of the following criteria:
Genre equals: Blues; Country; Easy Listening; Jazz; Pop; Top 100
Played# = 0
Limit to: 8000 megabytes
Selected by: Random Album
Sort by: Title A..Z; Artist A..Z; Track# A..Z
The resulting list is in random order. Shouldn't the sort, sort the result list by Title, Artist and Track#?

On 2523 I get the expected sort form that sort setting. Can you please try with that version: viewtopic.php?f=30&t=86639&sd=d

Hi Lowlander,
I figured it out...Apparently, I can't read. I wanted it sort by Album first, not title.
Don't ask.
