computer restarts when opening MM3: I get this blue screen

Post by harpagornis »

Can't read the blue screen, because it doesn't stay long enough at the screen. though I think it has something to do with a physical memory overflow.

The blue screen can be configured not to be shown. Google it and you will find how to.
Advanced Duplicate Find & Fix Find More From Same - Custom Search. | Transfer PlayStat & Copy-Paste Tags/AlbumArt between any tracks.
Tagging Inconsistencies Do you think you have your tags in order? Think again...
Play History & Stats Node Like having your Last-FM account stored locally, but more advanced.
Case & Leading Zero Fixer Works on filenames too!

XP:
1. Open the control panel and open System.
2. Click the Advanced tab, and then the settings button for Startup and Recovery.
3. In the System Failure box, uncheck "Automatically Restart".
This setting, while active, causes your computer to restart by itself when it crashes. Now you can read the error report it generates, and turn the computer off on your own terms.

VISTA:
1. Open the Control Panel, open System, and click Advanced System Settings. Proceed with XP steps 2 and after.

Now click Okay, and start up mediamonkey.

When your computer bluescreens, write down the error code. Restart, post the code here, and google it to see if it's a problem with your hardware.

blue screen

Post by rusty »

harpagonis,

Another thing that would be useful is to generate a debug log. The blue screen will prevent you from saving the debug log, so what you need to do is configure debugview to 'save to file'--that way everything up to the bluescreen gets recorded in the log.

More about generating the debug log is at step 4b of:
http://www.mediamonkey.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=341

If you have the time, please send it our way. Thx.

Debug log

Post by rusty »

harpagornis,

The debug log looks like it was generated with the standard version of MM. Can you regenerate using the debug version? (the debug version is included in the build announcement).

Thx.
