Genres getting mangled

Post by graham » Fri Feb 04, 2005 4:06 pm

The Genre's built into Mediamonkey (MM)
2 Country
3 Dance
4 Disco
5 Funk
6 Grunge etc

When I copy the MM ripped files to my Samsung, then rebuild the database on the device, it ends up with Genre's of '(17)Rock', '(1)Classic Rock' listed AS WELL as 'Rock' (not (17) prefix). Only difference I can see is that the ripped WMA files come out with 'Rock' and ripped MP3 files come out as (17)Rock

As I routinely delete the entire contents of the HD player, copy and re-index it cannot be a hang over from old version can it?(**) If MM says all my files are Rock - and there are no unsynchronised tags - where are the (17)Rock coming from????

(I used to rip with WMP - but it was crap (but fast), but I'm now a lifetime registered MM user.)
(**) I would be sincerely greatful when MM supports the Samsung / PortalPlayer database format then I can truely SYNC

Well "(17)Rock" Syntax comes from 17 - ID3v1 Genre ID, "Rock" - ID3v2 genre Name. During Compatibility and that ID3v2 Tag Have this Syntax if App support both ID3v1 And ID3v2 tags.
If you use only ID3v1 Tag no 17 Will be shown. It is Speced in ID3v2.4.0 Specifications.

Graham,
Don't count on it, all it is needed that we need to figure out solution.
Have you tried to use only ID3v2 or ID3v1 Tag?

How about when you copy the file to the external player, you have an option to only copy the ID3v1 tags, or ID3v2 tags, or both? Means you need to change the tags "on the fly" as they are copied...

I just rebuilt my library with ID3v1 tags and the Genre are now completely correct. Thanks for fixing the problem for me.
