File Monitor crashes .1225 worked fine in .1224 [Win 7-64]

Post by bilzebub »

MM hangs constantly on startup and file monitor enabled in this new build. Uninstalling and reverting to .1224 didn't help (I deleted MM folders in Program Files and C:\Users, but did not clean the registry) either. Not sure what to do now...

I can send along a windows error report if desired.
[Edit] But no debug log is prompted. I just belatedly read the sticky on getting the Sysinernals debug viewer, so I'll email that
Thanks!

[Edit] Tried sending the log email to support, but got an auto response that I have to have an account?! I don't know how else to do it...

You first need to create an account with support before you can send an email.

Does Add/Rescan Tracks hang when you scan the same folders as the File Monitor?

PS. Windows 7 isn't officially supported by MediaMonkey.

I'm on Windows 7 and don't experience this... might it be related to a network issue or something else? Have you tried reproducing with local tracks?

Hi and thanks, I realise that Win 7 is not official, still, one good beta derserves another? :)

I am sharing the database across a home network, so my file monitor looks for tracks in the network address //mycomputer/my music. Just for fun I tried scanning the local partitioned drive letter (D:/my music) and there were no hang ups. But add/rescan had the same problems when directed to the network location. In fact, even selecting //my computer/my music from the network tree in add/rescan causes the system (Q6600 quad 4 GB ram) to "thinK for a good minute or so before letting me tick the box [Edit -- although after that minute has passed, it scans more quicklym-mabout 1000 files a minute at "normal" thread priority].

Disabling ESET smart security firewall does nothing to change all this. All puters are behind a Dlink dir-655 router, the main machine in question is wired to the LAN. It has always been a bit slow in re-scanning, but with .1225 i actually crash and cannot continue.

I'm thinking that maybe the drive your scanning is turned off (standby) when you start scanning and this causes the problems?

My theory seems to be supported by the fact that if you select the drive (a folder on it) in Add/Rescan Tracks that (even though the selection hangs) the scan works as the drive has been started up again.

Try the following, using Windows Explorer go to the drive look at a folder on it and then directly start MediaMonkey with the File Monitor enabled and see if it hangs or not.

Hi,

Any news on this issue? Is it resolved? Is anyone experiencing the problem in 1228?

Thx.

I am on 1228, but have gone as per suggestion to using add/rescan only. Apparently monitoring 23000 files is an issue

bilzebub,

So do you mean to say that if you add/rescan a specific directory (with 23k tracks), it works, but if you do the same using the file monitor, MM crashes?

If so, can you please send me a debug log illustrating the crash?

Thx.

Hi, i hadn't been using file monitor after the last advice. Moved up to .1228 and since you asked, went back to file monitor, and it still crashes after monitoring the first 500-1000 files. Where would I find the debug log to send you?

Cheers

How exactly does it crash? Does MM give you a change to send a crash report (i.e. pop-up a special window for this purpose)?

The screen "greys out" and won't respond. I sent in a windows debug log to the support site, as no mediamonkey crash report is offered

Hi,

Is this issue affecting anyone?

If yes, does it occur in earlier 3.1 builds?

(the debug log that had been sent didn't give us much useful info).
