Apple IOS 5

Post by Raptor12 »

I know you are busy getting media monkey 4 out the door, when do you think MediaMonkey 3 or 4 will be able to write to an iPod 4g with IOS 5. With build 1388 of MM4 it gets detected ok but comes up with a warning "not able to write to Pod with current firmware, but you will be able to read contents"

They were already working on it. No timetables are given as it will be done when it's done.

If you're desperate to sync then you can achieve this now via my d_itunes plugins.

Available for MM3 and MM4.

thanks markstuartwalker for that

that worked for me in mediamonkey 3.26.1307 but won't work in mediamonkey 4.0.1392

i'm not worried about mediamonkey 4 yet, as I am waiting for a least an RC or later build before i convert my database to version 4 and lose my ability to go back to mediamonkey 3 if i need to

I hope I will be able to continue using MediaMonkey 3, when Apple release the final version of IOS 5

1. During the upgrade MM3 -> MM4, a backup of the database is made automatically, so you can always go back
2. MM4 will be released long before iOS5 is.

iOS5 brings wireless sync options for the iPhone. Do the MM developers have any plans for this?

1. This is a one time backup, if we make changes (add music, update ratings, play music, change tags, etc) to the MM4 database, then the MM3 DB is out of sync and is near useless.
2. Thanks for the timeline for the release of MM4. iOS5 is "coming this fall" according to http://www.apple.com.

With the release of IOS 5 being announced for next week, October 12th, has there been any insight into a possible timeline for synching MediaMonkey with IOS 5?

No, but it starts with having to wait till IOS 5 is available on consumer devices. After this the process can start to make MediaMonkey compatible with it. This might take a while depending on how much Apple changes and how hard they made it for third parties to connect to it.

Actually, afaik, iPhone 4s is shipping in Canada beginning Oct. 14th (with IOS5)... MM4 might be at RC, by then, but doubtfully released.

iOS5 is available for existing devices Oct. 12 if I'm not mistaken.
