1708 Auto-conversion WMA Lossless to WMA fails [----]

Post by chrisjj »

On Win 7 and e.g. Creative ZEN:

1 Check device 'Compatible media formats' http://i.imgur.com/pH7aVaQ.png

Code: Select all

Audio WMA; WMAv1, above 5kbps
Audio WMA; WMA, above 5kbps
which IIUC excludes WMA Lossless (and certainly the device support itself excludes WMA Lossless).

2 Check device auto-conversion says convert incompatible audio http://i.imgur.com/jM8i47n.png to WMA (plain).

3 Sync a file IDed as using WMA Lossless codec by dBpoweramp http://i.imgur.com/aGtUvQO.png (I don't know how to get MM to ID codec).

Expected: Sync produces WMA (plain)
Observed: Sync produces WMA Lossless: http://i.imgur.com/GoOrR7C.png and device playback says "There is a problem playing this audio".

EDIT: With auto-conversion set to Any http://i.imgur.com/A7oaRs6.png , the result is success http://i.imgur.com/pysMqvE.png, suggesting that the failure above is due to failed 'incompatible audio' detection. Devs, my guess is that MM is erroneously matching the library file's WMA Lossless against the supported/compatible format's list entry for WMA, despite that the two are different codecs.

Workaround: if all and only WMA Lossless tracks are Bitrate > 256, then use this: http://i.imgur.com/cCr7wAs.png
