Classic style skins

Post by Exaxxion »

I would love skins to make MM3 look like the MM2 series... Honestly the whole OMG VISTA! thing looks terrible. None of the skins that come with the player look even halfway decent, and the taskbar icon was changed too. I loved the look and familiarity of the old blue player, why did it have to be so radically changed?

If this can't be done then I'll just install an old version of MM; the late 2 series worked great and didn't look like [less polite word for fecal matter].

Thanks, I saw this when I was searching... but the only thing worse than looking like Vista is looking like a Mac.

I can understand if there are skins that don't match your taste, but the skinners have worked very hard to put out the skins that are currently available. Please in the future don't be so harsh with your comments as the skinners are normal users like yourself who put in a ton of time and provide their skins for all to enjoy/use.

nohitter151, I know that the skinners have put work into the MM3 skins. If people like them, power to them. I'm merely entitled to and am expressing my own opinion, so don't berate me for that.

You are entitled to your opinion, I'd just hope you could use something a little more polite than saying that they are comparable to fecal matter.

All right, so we can end this pointless quibbling, I'll say it a bit more nicely. My first post was meant to be frank and blunt, not politically correct.

*Ahem*,

"I am particular to the interface from the MM2 series and am disappointed in the changes made to the interface for MM3. Had I wanted my window decorations to look like Vista, I would have installed Vista. If I wanted to use iTunes or WMP11, I would have used those. I would greatly appreciate it if someone could create a skin that looks and functions similarly to the default blue skin of the MM2 series."

did you even look at the screenshots of my skins ?

there are 2 that are made for short palyers one looks short and one looks like it is short but it is stretched like the mm 3 skins.

the two i mention are
esthetic hi fi.
brushed steel monkey.

the trouble with short players is the skinning engine does not yet support locked size players and there are some things you have to do extra to use them.

but please take a look at the one nohitter151 converted.
and the ones i did.

the old mm 2 skin was from the winamp player. which they also changed from its old classic skin to its modern one.

no one berated you but you berated us when you compaired all the skins to a pile of cr.....p which if you had looked at my screenshots and seen esthetic hi fi. you know you have just called all mm 2 skins a pile of cr....p also. because that is the defult mm 2 skin theme with a mm 3 player.

the mm 2 skin was not able to be viewed in large screen sizes because it was fixed in its size. which is the reason winamp also went to the modern style of skin. rusty and jiri opt'ed for this way of skinning because it offers the best of both modern and the old way.

there are also 4 players to pick from in the new skin sets.

a main player a floating player and a verti.. and hort.. task bar player so you can use it in any way you need.

and there is no way in mm 2.5 to have any of those.

I never realized expressing an opinion on something was such a dangerous thing.

If he doesn't like any of the skins, and think they all look like a pile of fecal matter, he can say so... If you're a skinner and take it to heart, why not ask how the skins can be made better? Every opinion will blossom into constructive criticism if you allow it (which you're really not for telling this guy he's wrong for saying what he did).

Just saying that he can't call them cr_p because of all the hard work is asinine.

i have giving them information to find the skin they were asking for. i don't think we all just bawled them out.?

i for one did the most expalining i could to help them.

but they can most certianly say what they think of the skins
but if they call them all the same thing. then they never looked at all the screen shots. because i sure don't make vista skins. unless vista has chimp's playing bongo drums? or has a cb radio for a player.? but i don't think they do since i made both of those.

if they look at the screen shots and don't like something just ask the skinner to customize it for them if they the skinner wants too then they might. i did for musicbringer.

the screenshots are at the wiki and there are several messages already with links to the wiki site.

First and foremost, I never meant to get everyone riled up. You guys are blowing things out of proportion; I simply wanted to state I was dissatisfied with the three default skins for MM3 and ask if there was a skin that changed the GUI to look exactly like "Blue Monkey", the default skin for MM2.

monkey hi fi, I went to both your angelfire websites and couldn't find anything (Note: I'm sick and those sites were physically painful to read).

After more digging through the MM Wiki I was able to find a description of your "esthetic hi fi" skin which is what I'm looking for (with some minor differences), but from what I can understand of the description, it looks like that will only work up to 1280x800. My desktop monitor is 1680x1050 and it worked fine with the skins from MM2... I can't say I'm familiar with the intricacies of the new skinning engine, but I guess I'll give it a shot. If it doesn't work then I'll just install an old version of MM and wait a couple updates for the engine to be fixed.

Thanks for your help.

some like the black backgrounds of my site some don't
but the yellow fonts are able to be read.

sorry about the popups that seem to keep showing up even my own pop up killer is having trouble with them?

just click the name of the skin on that bookmark area it will load another page for the skin to be seen and downloaded,
by clicking on the image.
it will load a zip file you have to unzip
and put the msz file in your skins folder.

they will all be on the skin's site when rusty gets the site finished but he is busy on everything now.

the size of the screen to use the skin on was set for the size of the fonts in the player and the size of the buttons in the player.
or the size the players were made in as in the default size of the player can be used only on the smallest screen size it is said there. any size smaller then what was listed will cut the player in half or just cut some of the side of it off.

they are able to be used on any size of screen if you don't mind not seeing those.

the skin error seen with the locked size skins can be worked around by loading the skin in monkey and
if it shows half the image of the player skin.
just exit monkey and restart monkey it will show the
whole skin then.
not sure when they will get that bug fixed.?
but that is how to work around it.

what you don't want in the esthethc hi fi? let me know i'll see if i can get it change, but if you want the exact default skin called blue monkey from mm 2.

that was made by someone that was i believe paid to make it so they should have the opition to convert it.

i won't change any skin to an exact converted copy.
