Ableton Live Style

Post by BrokenDoll »

I've been toying around with the idea of making a skin that has the sort of minimalist feel you see in the user interface for Ableton Live, (http://www.ableton.com/live if you don't know it). Basically it's functional, clean and simplistic. I know a bit about coding - enough to get me by here and there, but I'm comfortable with graphic design. Generally, I've never been a fan of the shiny-glass, embossed, flashy sort of stuff. If anyone else is interested in this let me know.

Please please please make a skin like MMD3 for Winamp. It's been the top-rated winamp skin for over 5 years, and it just keeps getting better. It doesn't look that spectacular on the website, but some of the color options they have for it are amazing! Here's the link. If you have winamp, I would highly suggest installing it and taking a look. http://classic.winamp.com/skins/details/122902

Looks nice ,clean and simpel,I play a bit with some screenshots from Ableton to look if it works with MM, and looks good.
Got you any ideas or pictures for the player layout?

Sorry I've been away - I have kids and college and whatnot. I'll try to figure out a bit more with the player and get back to you - so far I hadn't put much thought beyond the initial idea as I didn't know if anyone was interested. I'll look into it more this week and post on here when I come up with something

That looks very nice. Once again, sorry it's taken me so long to get back here. I think this would work, but I need to get started on it myself and figure out where I need to go from here.

Request: A simple skin for radio DJs

Post by badjeros »

I regularly use my laptop as a backup music source when I do my cheesy college radio show. My software of choice is MediaMonkey (want to manage a dj-sized collection? Get the monkey.)

I would really like to have an easy-to-read, easy to operate skin that I can use when I'm fumbling with the CD decks and the turntables and the playlist notes and such. If I was clever I would make it myself, but I've never done any skinning and I'm way daunted about starting. And time-starved. Too many projects already.

So here's a request for the skinners: is somebody interested in knocking together a skin for DJs? It would *NOT* have to be slick or graphically pleasing in the least. All it would need is:

- big fat high-contrast start button.
- big fat high-contrast stop button.
- big fat high-contrast "time remaning" display
- big fat position-in-track slider to back that up
- alternating (but subtle) background colouration in the playlists, to make it easy to read across artist/title/etc.

It would have to NOT have:

- distracting textures, gradients, glosses, flourishes, geegaws, baubles, fringes, sparkles, anything to clutter the interface or distract from the core information.

Right now the closest I can find are:

The un-skinned ("Override Skin theme with Windows System theme") version. Good, but the play and stop buttons are too small, and the time remaining could be bigger, and the position-in-track slider could be higher contrast. I could forgive all that but: no alternating backgrounds in the playlist windows is killer.

Morten's iTunes v7. Close, but the time remaining and track position displays are too small, and it doesn't have a "stop" button, which it turns out is key. And the play button could be bigger. It's beautiful of course, but that's lost on me when the Tom Waits vinyl develops a skip and I'm stabbing for the play button on whatever Boards of Canada comes up first in the search results.

Can anybody help a poor DJ blast his tunes on the radio without screwing up too much?

If you'd be willing to make some mock-ups of the skin I'd be happy to help you with the skinning, but as a skinner I can't read your mind in terms of what you want out of the player.

As I understand this thread is a place where anyone can show their MM skin design, and then someone familiar with the skinning process can do the actual coding work, not somewhere to just describe what you want in words, hoping that someone will do all of the work for you. I've already started development of 2 new skins where other users dedicated their time to actually creating what they want the skin to look like (through image editing programs). Unfortunately the development has stalled due to time constraints on each of their ends, but it just goes to show that if you're willing to put in some work, your dream skin can be a reality without having to learn the intricacies of MM skinning. Just see the first post of the thread:

Just my two cents, sorry about the rant!

Would one of you experts care to help me with my player? I have posted my player.mskn and player.ini on
http://drop.io/medmonk -- please use that service to communicate with me. Thanks for any and all help.

I really love Mediamonkey, it made me give up on itunes and even foobar basically because of its really good tagging qualities, i love it...

However, There isnt any really nice clean looking skin for it. I would love to see something made from

http://www.aeonproject.com/gallery.html

or something like this

http://leuchtstoff.deviantart.com/art/W ... -128383153

(The bottom-part where the player is, but with buttons included in the frame instead of floating)

sKins like that just aren't possible with MM's theme engine.
