Media File Name, renaming Script using ID3 tags?

Post by Rednroll »

I'm wondering if anyone knows of a script or a method in MM to rename the source media file names using the ID3 tag information?

My thought is that in MM when you use the "Convert audio format" under the TOOLS menu, it gives some nice file naming options using the ID3 tag information which have worked great for the way I prefer to have my media files named when it converts the audio format. It works equally as nice when I'm ripping an audio CD. Well, I would like to have this same kind of functionality without converting the audio format but only converts the file names using the ID3 tag info.

Just use Right Click->Auto-Organize Files...

It will rename the files using any of the ID3 Tag values and format you want.

Or are you looking to do it over your whole collection?

Nope this sounds perfect. I'm just hoping to be able to select files in MM and have it do the rename function using the ID3 tag info. Over the years, I've used several programs to rip CDs to MP3 and they've all used different file naming conventions and I want to get all my files sorted so they look the same when I look at them in Windows Explorer. I've been manually doing this, and it's been a major pain. My preference is "<Artist>\<Year> <Album>\<Track#:2> <Artist> - <Title>".

Thank you for your help!!!

Damn!!!! That was easy....took me all of 2 seconds to do an entire album, which previously took me at least 5 minutes and a bunch of clicking and typing. :D

PERFECT!!!!
