Keyword field

I'd love to see a Keyword field appear in the Music Explorer Tree. This could work like Genres, so when you drag and drop songs into the keyword field, you would add the new keyword to the song. Note that when you drag and drop songs into a new Genre, the song is moved to the new genre. You can't let a song belong to 2 Genres.

The problem with Genres is that a song typically fits more than one genre, and so using more than one keyword for a song would let you group songs together in more flexible ways.

Did I mention this product is terrific? NEARLY perfect!!

I use my Custom 3 field for keywords.
I include things like, 80's, 90's, Live, Best Of, {a secondary genre} etc

For me it's custom 3 too.
I made a script for adding/removing my keywords to that field.

I'm looking for a script that *adds* keywords to already existing keywords instead of overwriting the keyword(s). A sort of a 'drop' of keywords on selected files which only adds the keywords ould be perfect.

You can also use any of the classification types as keywords. Just type the keyword you want to add. The bonus is they have their own node so you can drag and drop files between them too.

Taknojnky, can you explain what you mean with using the classification types as keywords? As far as I can tell, the classifications are locked (meaning I can't change what the classifications types are. Or is there some way to customise the classifications?

You can type whatever keyword you want in the track properties. You don't have to use the drop down.

Once you've updated a file with a new keyword, it should show up on both the dropdown list and on the classification node.

I think he means that the classifications are named quality, tempo, ...

Oh, no you can't change the field type... but you can say, use tempo classification field, for just about anything.

Or any other the other classifications fields.

Let me give another example:
"Occasion" field initially comes with 7 options for you to choose from:
Background, Dance, Dinner, Party, Rave, Romantic, Seasonal.

But you can add as many different "occasions" as you want:
"Rainy Days", "Feeling Bored", "I Love 70's"...

You just need to type a new occasion once, in a song properties window.
Then it will be available for you to drag-and-drop other songs in the Classification > Occasion node.

I appreciate the discussion on this. That helps.
So I understand (and have tried it) I can change what comes under those classifications. I just can't change the classification headers (Occassion, Tempo, etc.). That's cool.
I'll have a play around with that.
