syncs playlists but can't see them on Android Galaxy S2

Post by ScottTanner »

I looked around for a solution for this but found nothing for this specific problem.

Syncing playlists and songs to my Galaxy S2's SD card worked flawlessly until MediaMonkey release 4.0.3.1476. Now it will sync the playlists to the card but I cannot see them on the phone (using the default music player).

I had it setup to automatically sync to the SD card when I plugged it in (playlists to /playlists/ on SD card, music to /music/ on SD card). As I said before, this used to work perfectly every time but as soon as I installed the update, all of my playlists on my phone disappeared (after syncing). The songs show up fine, categorized under artist, song etc. and the playlists do show up in the correct folder on the SD card when viewed from my PC (m3u format) but they will not show up on the phone itself.

I have also tried clearing the media storage on the phone, deleting all songs and playlists and letting them re-sync and tried deleting off SD card and syncing to phone. None of them worked. I also played with some of the playlist sync options such as: disabling "use unicode (UTF-8 encoding) for M3U playlists (which is on by default) and enabling "Use extended M3U."

I also tried all of these in combination with clearing the Media Storage on the phone (plug back in and take off to reset).

Operating system: Windows 7 32-bit
MediaMonkey version: 4.0.3.1476
Phone: Galaxy S2 (or SII)
Android version: 2.3.6

I feel like I am going through much more trouble than I should whilst still getting no results so I decided to ask. Anyone having similar problems or know how to fix it? I've been trying all day now with no luck, I'm sure I have missed something.

I had some issues with my car's Ford SYNC not seeing playlists as valid until I made the following changes to the playlist settings (specific to the mass storage device in question)...

Using MediaMonkey, under the portable device's options...
Set PLAYLIST options to do the following...

CHECK "Force relative paths"
UNCHECK "Use Unicode (UTF-8 encoding) for M3U playlists"
CHECK "Use extended M3U" (only seems to add a header line, not the actual details)
UNCHECK "Use Linux folder separator ('/' instead of '\')"

Anyone else have any ideas/suggestions? I've tried a couple more things but have had no luck.

SOLVED IT! Downgraded to MediaMonkey version 4.0.2.1462. Everything works perfectly again. Hope this helps someone else out there.

Thanks, ScottTanner. I was going nuts trying to get playlists to work. Thought I broke something because I went to ICS and then back to Gingerbread. Tried different MTP drivers in Windows 7. Never even thought about MediaMonkey 4.0.3 being the culprit until I saw your post. Installed 4.0.2.1462 and the playlists are back on my Galaxy S2. 8)

You should test with 4.0.5 (available in Beta Forum) as it fixes the problem introduced with 4.0.3 to verify it is fixed for your device too.

Thanks for the tip. I installed the latest beta (4.0.5.1489) and playlists work.

on MM 4.0.5.1496 playlist don't work again.

i'm unable to sync with my Galaxy S2.

I see it copies all files, bu then create EMPTY .pla file (for playlist) - 0 bytes

i don't know how to force it to create .m3u files for playlist. the older version (4.0.3) worked well.

FOUND SOLUTION GUYS!!

Go in your Android Device -> Settings -> Applications -> Development
check the DEBUG item.

1- now connect the phone to the computer
2- Android recognize USB is connected and you should open the notification and press the 'CONNECT MASS MEMORY' button.
3- now your PC see your phone as a Mass Storage, Mediamonkey see it as your PHONE anyway (but you should reconfigure the device on mediamonkey one-time only to set where store music files, pl, etc.) - REMEMBER TO SET 'force relative paths' in the sync option.
4- SYNC! MM will correctly write M3U files.

Next time you could only repeat step 1-2 and 4

For whatever use it may be:

1. click 'Tools' then 'Options'
2. then on the left, click 'Portable/Audio Devices'
3. then find your Galaxy S 2 in the list, whichever one you transfer music to, and click 'Configure'
4. then at the top of the new window, click 'Options' tab
5. then on the left click 'Playlists'
6. and finally, put a check in the box 'Use Linux folder separator ('/' instead of '\')'

this made my playlists show up in the default music player on my Galaxy S 2 skyrocket =D

Hope this helps!!!

btw here's a link to a screenshot to help out (hopefully): http://img846.imageshack.us/img846/7738 ... sfixmm.png
