Using the current mmw i tried installing the service to see if it would work this time (had problems for quite a while). Here is the image of message returned.

I then clicked the 'okay' button and then closed the options window. Then I closed MMW.
I checked services and windows reported the service as running!!!!
I then tried to start MMW and get the 'cant open db .. do you want to create new' message. I have to STOP the service and disable, start mmw then uninstall service. Really?
This is a continuing problem which comes and goes.
Again, problem with install service

Now, even with the service stopped and disabled i continue to get the 'cant be opened .. create new?' <SIGH>
Luckily i was smart enough to back up the DB today as I knew I was going to try the service AND it is so flakey ...

Re: Again, problem with install service
dunno if this is your problem exactly but I had a problem installing the 'service' from within the 'Media Server' dialogue...my solution:
Close MM and restart from within install folder EACH of the MM exe's... mediamonkeyCOM.exe Mediamonkeyservice.exe and mediamonkey.exe as Admin then from MediaServer dialogue 'Install as Service'...you'll probably still get the error...don't worry
Open 'Services' (with MM still running)
Find the MM Service, open the properties of the service
Enter the Administrator pw under your local account: should get a message stating 'user' has been granted admin privileges, then enter your 'user' account pw
Then 'Start Service' should proceed as normal (I also set the Automatic flag)
