PERFORMER multi-value tag vs. Picard

Post by Eldorage »

I am not an expert on tagging, so please forgive any ignorant assumptions here.

It seems that perhaps MM might be writing the PERFORMER multi-value tag incorrectly?

All my tracks are FLAC.

I use MusicBrainz Picard (separate app, no MM plugin) to match and album release and tag. Then I look at the tags with MP3tag:

Then I scan the album into MM, and then sync the tags which causes MM to rewrite the PERFORMER tag. Now in MP3tag it looks like this:

From my amateur viewpoint, this looks like MM is getting the multi-value separator wrong?

How can I get MM and Picard to tag things the same way?

Why do you think MM is getting it wrong? MM uses a semi-colon to separate multiple values of a tag category in all (most?) tag fields.

Please bear with me, I am still learning :)

I looked into the FLAC files with a hex editor to try and understand the differences between how MM and Picard store the tags.

MM stores one PERFORMER tag like this:

Code: Select all

PERFORMER=Daniel Ash (guitar); David J (bass guitar); Kevin Haskins (percussion); Kevin Haskins (drums (drum set)); Daniel Ash (vocals)...
Picard stores multiple PERFORMER tags, like this:

Code: Select all

PERFORMER=Daniel Ash (guitar)
PERFORMER=David J (bass guitar)
PERFORMER=Kevin Haskins (percussion)
PERFORMER=Kevin Haskins (drums (drum set))
PERFORMER=Daniel Ash (vocals)
...
Is there any way to configure MM to store multiple PERFORMER tags like Picard?

Or should I ask in the Picard forum if there is a way for Picard to store the single tag like MM?

I am hoping there is a way to get these two write the tags in the same format.

There is no method to configure this in MediaMonkey. I believe both methods are valid ways to store the information.
