re attaching disassociated MM database back to files
Wondering if there is a capability (as there is in Adobe Lightroom) to re attach the library database back to the files, (or point the database back to where the files are when they become disassociated between database and the files ie if a drive is replaced/path is changed/file is moved, without having to rescan the whold database back to MM5

Spent a hour trying to do this... however, I see no "Media Properties in the Context menu".....
As per the instructions in the wiki
Changed drive: https://www.mediamonkey.com/wiki/WebHel ... sign_Drive
Ive changed my scan settings to the new drive and podcasts downloads to the new drive
One other note: there is no reference to users that may use NAS with MM5 and not just disk drives

I cannot find anywhere that brings up the "Media properties" boxManually Re-assign Drive
"Right click on the drive in the Collection > Location node in the Media Tree and select Media properties from the Context Menu."

Right click on the drive in the Music > Location node in the Media Tree, the third item in the Context Menu will be Media Properties.

Re: re attaching disassociated MM database back to files
Harr I see it
It only appears on the "Network" node, not on any of the sub folders or the node "Location"
ie my music is Location/Network/NAS1/Music it only appears on Network
So this leads me to the next problem.....
Im moving to a new NAS and I can only select drives on the PC ie C: E: D:......Z: etc with this functionality (dropdown box).
Where is the selection for a new location for Location/Network/NAS2/Music
The "Location" selection box drops down, but I cannot see the bottom of it only down to Z: drive yes, I have 20 drives on the PC, I tried typing the location into the box but that is not allowed...
Example of the current path to music:
\\VIDEO-SERVER\Music\00 Now Thats What I Call Music\NOW That's What I Call Electronic (2021)\10. Spandau Ballet - To Cut a Long Story Short.mp3
What I need the path to be
\\SYN920\Music\00 Now Thats What I Call Music\NOW That's What I Call Electronic (2021)\10. Spandau Ballet - To Cut a Long Story Short.mp3

This is only for lettered drives. In your case you'll need to use Locate Moved/Missing Files. Make sure to verify the matches before applying the change.

Re: re attaching disassociated MM database back to files
So Adobe Lightroom - I just pointed it at the new top directory using the function "update folder location" on the new server "photos" and it linked everyone of the 400,000 photos and moved the edits/changes held in the library to the photo in its new location.
Regarding MM5
None of the files/titles are missing as they exist in the new NAS (not scanned yet) and the old NAS, so it will not identify them in the moved/ Missing flies of the database.
From what you are saying - I have clear the database and re scan the whole 100000 music files back into the library as the functionally is not in MM5 to do this type of change (change the NAS location for the data), from this change I will lose 1) Manual playlists and 2) other data that is dependent on the file location such as auto play lists -dependent on location for its data via Filter (these are the only instances I can think of that will unavalible to the new NAS location.
I have been testing if MM4 if it had this functionality but it does not appear so.
I would suggest that this functionality is added to MM5 with the growth of NAS for end users, a migration path of updating is necessary.

In that case temporarily disconnect the old NAS to use this feature (so files are missing).

So if I do this (disconnect) will I have to link all 100000 individually?
Re: re attaching disassociated MM database back to files
Yesish, MediaMonkey will look for the matching files on the new location and make the matches. You just need to confirm they're correct.

So in that case, it appears that it will be effectively re-scanning to find them, so I wonder what would be the advantage there.
The alternative would be to rename the old database, start mm, and just rescan. No input required.

Re: re attaching disassociated MM database back to files
But that's the same as "clear database" and rescanning files and it still loses the Playlist locations!
Isn't it?
Re: re attaching disassociated MM database back to files
Sorry, I see your issue now.
I was not thinking of the fact that existing playlists store the full pathname instead of just the track name itself.
Someone more knowledgeable than me needs to chime back in on that, if there are any other ways.
In fact, maybe that is what was meant with using locate missing, as it would then update the location in the playlists at the same time.

Re: re attaching disassociated MM database back to files
Have you actually tried this?
ie removing the source and pointing at the new location to find the file?
So I removed the patch cable from the NAS and opened MM5, tried to play the first music record it then (as expected) proceeded to not find the file and all the other files to play. I stopped with pause playing at 3000 records not found.
I pointed it at the new NAS location to find the files and it proceeded (as far as I could see) to cycle through 107000 files to find the file it was looking for after 30 minutes I stopped it as it seemed like a futile exercise......
Re: re attaching disassociated MM database back to files
You may want to do it in batches of files. It's an intensive process as it needs to compare files.
If you're handy with SQL you can manipulate the database file itself to make the Path changes.
