Which genre for songs performed by TV actors?

Post by pderwael »

Hi folks,

I have inherited quite a few songs performed or produced by movie/TV actors
People like Alan Thicke, David Raskin, Mort Greene...

I was wondering about the most appropriate musical genre to assign them

Initially, I thought about putting them in Soundtrack, but I'd rather use this genre for people who spent most of their career writing movie soundtracks like Ennio Morricone, Dave Grusin, Mike Post etc...

An alternative would be to put them in the catchall Pop genre because of the Popular aspect of the movies or TV series they wrote for, but this would be somewhat too generic

Any suggestion guys?

Thanks

You said it before: use "TV-Actors-POP"; "TV-Actors-ROCK" .....

I'd evaluate the song not the performer. If a song is a pop song I use Pop. If a song is part of a soundtrack I use Soundtrack. However if a soundtrack song is also a pop song I use Pop; Soundtrack.

I don't class Soundtrack as a genre.
As you said, a song's genre should be categorized based on the song. Not where it originates from.
Just because a track originated from a Soundtrack album, doesn't define its genre. There could be numerous genres on the same Soundtrack album. Same applies to TV.

That is what came to my mind as well:
Use multiple genres according to the particular tracks.
Easiest done by drag & dropping the selected tracks onto the fitting genre on the left (holding CTRL-key).
MM5 (2606)and MM4 (1919) installed and running well on:
Debian 11 KDE, EndeavourOS KDE (wine 7.4 via playonlinux), Win10 64bit

Thanks all for your suggestions

I forgot to mention that, due to the sheer size of the collection, categorising titles (and even album) by genre is not an option
I left that information at the artist level, even if this far from being perfect...

Actually, I like the idea of creating the "Movie" category

Thanks again
